texting via browser

Homerboy

I'm trying to find a GOOD app that works consistently. I don't know if it's the app that's crapping out, my data connection or what.

I've tried MySMS, MightyText and MobiTexter. They all seem to work OK for a few minutes but then I stop receiving texts or they ones that I type don't go through at all.

It really sucks as it's WAY easier to text clients etc while at work via a webbrowser than doing it on my phone.

Does anyone have any experiences with this app or any others?

MightyText works about 95% of the time for me. Sometimes requires a refresh and sometimes requires that I turn the phone on after sending a text via Chrome and that makes it go through. It's not perfect but it's pretty good.

You can control your phone through XMPP(chat client(Pidgin)), and recieve/send sms...

How does this compare to any of the services like MightyText?
I found MightyText and all similar apps to drain the battery much faster. I didn't like that at all.

Move over to Whatsapp?

On a similar note, I just try to get as many people as I can to move to Hangouts (Google Talk... this is much like Sci-Fi moving to SyFy, just stupid, I will never get over it lol).

I haven't used it much, and it's currently inactive but installed. Back when I was using it, I didn't notice any egregious battery usage. It works as a set of modules. You install the main module, then add modules for functionality. The commands have to be learned, and are perhaps a bit arcane, but it isn't hard to use. It's not something you can install and use without reading docs though.

Never had a problem with MightyText. I also never had any noticeable battery drain issues with it installed.

I was doing the same thing with GTalk/Hangouts without much success. Maybe 10 people at most tried and only 2-3 people stayed.

Last year I started trying to get everyone I know to move to Telegram (much superior program than everything else). Success rate is a little better, but still about 75% of my 250+ or so contacts are stuck in Whatsapp 😡 Well at least I was able to ditch BBM for more than a year now without missing anyone.

(Just to clarify, no I'm not suggesting the OP to 'move to Whatsapp' or any other messaging program. If his contacts are still using old fashion SMS texting from the 90s, there's really nothing he could do to get them to switch)
