Text-mode problems with GF2MX

About 1 out of every 3 times I go into text-mode (doesn't matter if it's full-screen dos box, blue-screen, or linux). the only colors I get are black and very dark gray. There's no rhyme or reason as to when it happens, it just happens. I have a 3d Prophet 2 MX, and a Nokia 447L. I don't think it's my monitor, cause it just started when I got the new card. any suggestions/fixes would be welcome.
