But text messaging is quicker and easier than talking to someone... What's the point of this thread again?

Hardly... You talk faster than you type on the keyboard and you text message much slower than you type on a keyboard...

How is that quicker and easier again?

Conversations as short as text messages are considered rude. I don't want to listen to the asshole on the other end of the phone go on about their day and the weather and what they had for lunch. If I want to talk with you about your life, I'll get together with you. We'll go to the bar and have a few cold ones. I'll have you over and cook dinner for you (if you're cute :p), blah blah blah. If all I want to know is something short or my answer is a couple words, text messaging is perfect. Phone calls are retarded.

And, after having worked years and years and years in call centers, I hate talking on the phone. I absolutely loathe it.

Besides. Auto complete and the fact that I'm not a raving moron mean I can take 10 seconds to type out a reply and hit send instead of finding your number in the built in phone book, waiting for your lazy ass to find your ringing phone that's burried under a mound of garbage on your desk to answer it, just to have the same conversation and then try to get off the phone quickly before you start babbling about shit I couldn't give a rat's ass about.

Text messaging is infinitely faster.

Simple, short, and to the point.

Fuck phonecalls.

This is why you are Alone. :p

I hate text messages, not so much for the ones I get (very rare) or send (even more rare), but for those who stop anything and everything for a text message.

Let's not forget that you can have SEVERAL private conversations with different people by texting. Try that with your phone.

How is that any different than someone answering their phone and laughing and talking at full volume at the checkout at BestBuy or something? How is that any different from the asshole who can't talk and drive at the same time and ends up side swiping someone else or blowing a red light or whatever because they're too dense to concentrate? Or being entirely rude and their phone ringing at full volume in a quiet restaurant and them answering and having a 10 minute conversation, forcing everyone else to listen to half of it instead of enjoying dinner with their guests?

It's not, and I hate those assholes, too.

You realize that inconsiderate people are inconsiderate no matter the form and rude people are rude no matter the form... Text messaging while driving is far more deadly... I see people do it all the time too.. >_<

The arguments for text messaging over phone are extremely shitty in this thread

let me rephrase, $5 a month is a waste since i never text and never have anyone to text. $.25 per text is too expensive without a plan.

Too expensive for something that costs less than a phone call for the carrier. Popularity tax FTL.

Texting is the lowest form of communication.

Well, I should say, people who refuse to answer the phone and demand they be texted, this is the lowest form of communication.

Sometimes texting is better. Many times texting is such an inefficient PITA, takes 10 minutes back and forth when a quick 10 second conversation is all that is required

I used to hate text messaging. Now I find it easier to text message someone rather than leaving a voice mail, i.e., if someone is in a situation that they can't pick up to talk, they can read my text message and reply back right away. Plus checking voice mail takes at least 2x as long because I have to wait for the voice mail lady to stop talking before getting to the actual voice mail.

Yep

I text cus it's so much easier than having to wait to call someone then have to wait to leave a voicemail. They can see my text and call or text back accordingly.
