I have a son who is a diabetic. I'm looking for software I could set up that would allow me to schedule text messages to his phone for reminders. While I could use a calendar based program I thought there might be a cleaner solution.

I have access to not only PC but to a windows small biz server.

I'd look into doing with a batch file. I can't give specifics, but Google turned up some promising links.

Hmm. Reoccurring appointments with a Google calendar set up to send text message alerts seems like a decent backup solution if you can't figure anything else out.

You could use Windows Task Scheduler with the email gateway for your son's cell phone to accomplish this.

I second the Google Calendar suggestion. It's easy to set up, and you can create recurring events set for specific times during each day.

At the advice offered, I set up some trial events in google calendar. I dont see an SMS option so I am using the email option using the email option for the phone number (we are on verizon). I notice when the email arrives is got a lot of jibberish at the sender level which makes the reminder less than clear.

Something like:

Subject: 3H9EoTAcJCmUFKDcQVFJPDLO.

3H9EoTAcJCmUFKDcQVFJPDLO.FRPkdjmiijjjlYWHaW.FRP@calendar-server.bounces.google.com (Invitation: Test Blood (morning) @ Daily from 8am to 8:30am (7069556668@vte

Is there any way to clean that up?

Depending on the phone he uses, maybe just use the phones calender with alarms.

Or you could set up a script to just email him cellnumber@vtext.com should still work for verizon to send an email as a text.

You can tell it to remind you via SMS by choosing SMS for the reminder method. You probably need to add your son's phone to your Google account. It should be somewhere in the options.

What I see:

And this what the text I get looks like:

Reminder: Take Pills XYZ @ Mon Jun 28 1:43pm - in Home (Justin)

which is basically formatted as
Reminder: <Event Title> @ <Event Time> - in <Event Place> (<Event Creator>)
