Opponents breathe sigh of relief as deadline derails Texas transgender sports bill
AUSTIN –– Members of the LGBTQ caucus and some Democratic lawmakers held transgender pride flags on the House floor late Tuesday night as the fate became...

The anti-trans athlete bill would have prevented trans school kids from playing on their preffered gender based team ostensibly to protect girls from being hurt by trans-girls. No evidence of these injuries has been reported
The anti-EV bill taxes electric and hybrid electric vehicles each year they are registered to help pay for road infrastructure. This is a good thing in the abstract but in this specific case, depending on how the fees stacked, an EV owner would pay 50%-400% more on registrations fees than a heavier gas pickup would on TX gas taxes.
After the anti-trans bill got hung up the author threatend to stop the EV bill if the author of the EV bill didn't support a vote on the anti-trans bill.
"Supporters of the bill, such as Rep. Bryan Slaton, R-Royse City, have been trying to attach amendments targeting transgender student athletes to other pieces of legislation.
On Monday, Slaton raised a point of order about a Senate bill carried by Rep. Terry Canales, D-Edinburg, that would impose a fee on electric vehicles — but said he would remove it if a vote was taken on the transgender sports bill. The point of order was sustained, and the electric vehicle bill was returned to the Calendars Committee and failed to receive a vote.
Canales took to social media shortly after to condemn Slaton’s attempt.
“Rep. Slaton calls a point of order on my SB 1728, and says he will withdraw his point of order if I can get the Speaker to call a vote on his Anti-Transgender Kids Bill,” Rep. Canales said in a Tweet. “My answer, kill my bill, BIGOT!”"
So both bills failed before the deadline and would have to be brought back during a special session later this year or wait until 2023.
