I was ticketed for going 105 in a 75 in some random section of the I-10 headed Phoenix-LA.... I told the police officer I wasn't reckless, etc... She saw my record, and dropped it to a 90 in a 75 (maximum for AZ Civil), went to traffic school, and the ticket was dropped. What I found out from an attorney afterwards was that if she wanted to argue 105 in a 75 (which is automatically criminal jurisdiction), she'd also have to prove some sort of danger I posed to others. When there are no other cars on the road except for a truck two miles down in the right lane going well over 75, it gets laughed out by the Justice of the Peace courts, which are made up of elected civilians, many of whom have not passed the bar, but expect a ticket to pass a straight face test.

You texans down there have crazy highways. The largest highway in Canada is two-laned in most non-urban areas, and rarely straight.

I also think the drop in fatalities is attributable to the increase in concentration at higher speeds. I'd think at 85 or 90 people are paying a helluva lot more attention to the road and surroundings than say at 65 where they just cruise along obvlivious to anything outside of their own car.

Anybody live in the Bay area? Know of highway 680? What's your opinion on that? Think they should raise the speed limit from 65?
