Is anybody still seriously playing tetris anymore, I dont mean the people who just occasionaly play it for fun but the ones who are serious tetris freaks and have honed it down to an artform.

What are some of your stratergies and pet peeves?

personally: I think that trying to get a tetris is not the way to got and that true tetris should be played for lines and not for points. Many a fine teris player has been lured into the trap of going for the tetris and have died on early stages as a result of it.
I also really hate the:

structure as it needs a bit of work to fix up.

I alos have not found any GOOD tetris stratergy sites and the only ones around were for the newbies.

it's been a while but YES, score is for kiddies, line count is all that matters. And of course the ONLY real tetris is on the gameboy.

When I had a gameboy, I was da shi* in tetris. Dude, it was amazing.

My stradegy, start at level 9. Build up to go only for tetris, 4 line blocks. At the higher levels, those just rack up the points like crazzzzy. Things start falling so fast, you must not think, let the blocks maneuver themselves. Like water flowing off a cliff, let them fall into place naturally.

Also, why would you go for lines and not points? Lines are very easy to get. Just keep doing single lines and you can get so many without the level increasing too rapidly. Skillz lie in very high levels, and you cannot get there unless you are going for major points. Going for tetris is risky and you are correct, you can die quickly, but then again this is not a boy's game.

do the hold a and press down (cant actually remember buttons) trick to start on level 10 properly to practice, then go right the way through for a huge linescore.

points is a purile way to play as it is really up in the higher thirtys(for acid tetris) where the real men play, getting tetrii does not require any more skill than basically playing tetris with a 9 line wide screen cept that you need a bit of luck where as palying for lines is far more consistent and more satisfying in the end as you basically ALWAYS get up into those high levels where it is an instinct game.

Also, I can point out numerous flaws involved with the gameboy tetris, namely that you have only one finger available for movement which means that there is a time lag when changing directions which is VERY significant on higher levels. Also the number of options available are limited and the music is a bastadised version of the original console TETRIS...

gotta go, simpsons on :)

I still play it. Just recently started up again. :)

If anybody wants a small kick-ass Tetris program, I'll post it when I get home tonight. It's 9 years old, but it kicks ass.

Just for the record, The second time I have EVER played gameboy tetris, started on level 9, game A and got 171 lines, I only held the right/left buttons tho as a friend only told me after that you can tap it to go faster :(

Also, some other flaws with the gameboy model are that the shapes do not have significantly different colour which makes looking at them via periphrial vision a lot harder, also, at the higher levels, the delay after a line is made does not shorten so that you get valuble thinking time and disrupts the true flow and rhythm of the game which is the challenge at those higher levels.

By all means post you favorite tetris proggies, I personally use Acid tetris simply because it was on a school computer, I still have the original tetris by the russian guy if anybody is interested

I can play tetris to the point that my score is set zero again and again for 10 times. But that was in high school.

Speaking of tetris, I had the most surreal tetris experience two months back.

Was in the car playing tetris on a gameboy, when my two year old brother started nagging to play.

... so, I hand it over to him.

He proceeds to get a perfect tetris and win... and he was dropping blocks IMMEDIATELY as they appeared on the screen. I was freaking boggled.

Savant or something?

The guy who invented it was russian and there was no IP(intellectual property) laws in russia back then so he ended up selling the game to a company called, wait for it, the tetris company. Now they are rich and he is poor :(

I STILL play Tetris nearly every night on the Game Boy that my mom gave me nearly ten years ago.

I've been given Marble Madness and Tetris Attack for my Game Boy by yakko, which are very good games, but nothing compares to good old fashion TETRIS.

Recently I've been playing Tetris DX on the gameboy color like crazy. The color blocks makes seeing them with peripheral vesion a ton easier. lol, all my friends make fun of me for playing such a "simple" and "kiddie" game. Sigh...
