Testing Your Tower

Hello EveryBody,

I refurbished my old AGP tower.
New Parts...
80 Gig ID Hard Drive/removed old one
PSU/ 500Watt-old was 250watt
GPU/ 3850ATI- old was 2400ATI
Ram/ 2Gig (3) Total- old (11/2) Total

I'm a COD-4 player. I'm not happy with the FPS in game, 30-60fps. Other
friends in same server with AGP MOBO are getting about 100fps.

I'm the novice so,
#1) TCP test shows O.K.-maybe I should try to
open more ?

#2) I feel speed test were a little higher before rebuild.

#3) What Test could I use to see if there's a bottleneck ?


Using ATI 8.8 Catalyst
I tried to OC the card, but got freeze-ups in game !

Listing the full system specs would help. But the card you have is just on the edge of what AGP can support. If you have an older AGP slot or a slower CPU those could be slowing you down. You older HDD could be slowing you down a bit but only durring load times. Untill we have all the system information we can't really tell you much else. But go ahead and run the 3D Mark beches and see how your scores compair with those of similar systems.

BTW i doubt your friends are getting 100FPS on CoD4 with AGP cards.

Hmm, it would help if we knew what kind of CPU you had and how much RAM. A 3850 is a pretty quick card, you very well might be CPU bottlenecked.

As far as FPS ! This is from consel in game. Great running server. I have a 40ping
People with 60-80ping with PCI/Express, Getting 350-500 FPS !
This is differant than using a (FPS) program.

I downloaded free verison 3dmark06. I couldn't install ?
I have the 2008 hotfix for ,but didnt install yet.
I did install Microsoft excel viewer. It did not help !

Ah an old P4 system. There is your bottleneck. If you at least had a dual core you would see much better performance.
