Testing RAM

I have a old but reliable Dell 8100/P4 1.4 with two PC800 and two PC600 sticks, each 256mb and I am getting an increasing amount of freezes, errors, crashes and BSoDs. I wanted to test the RAM but can't seem to find a good primer on what program to use, where to find it and whether it will work on RDRam.

Any info would be most appreciated.

i would expect them both to work with that ram, i have used them with machines that use pc2100, pc2700, pc3200, pc100, pc133.

they will run and if you have errors they will let you know.

if anybody knows differently, please educate me 😉

i have used memtest86+ on rdram on my dell dimension 8100 and it works fine

The Memtest86 here: http://www.memtest.org/ looks like the best bet. I must confess ignorance as to what an ISO is. Which of these can I put on a CD to boot from? Is there a specific way to make a bootable floppy with this program on it?

this is the one i use and recommend, the original. and d/l the iso - the Memetest v3.2 iso image.

you will get a zip file and in it is a .iso image. you would burn this iso file image with whatever software you are using. it will be bootable. set your bios up to boot from cd-rom before hdd and then let it go, it will start up and start testing. let it run for a couple of hours, overnight if you want to be sure, the i am pretty sure you hit esc to stop the program.

its on my boards bios (but thats only for the dfi board), burn the iso to a cd, or if you have a floppy and that computer should that would be the easiest option, generally let it run overnight and see if there are any errors
