Testing Ram and CDRW's before i sell them

Well i'm looking to sell a bunch of old junk laying around the house and i honestly have no idea if some of this stuff works properly. can anybody advise me on the best way of testing ram and cdrw/dvd drives.
i've seen memtest86 for the ram, can you name any other programs that also do the same? i have no idea what software to use to test the drives so anybody advice would be appreciated.
