I am going to wait out to see how well this engine takes boost. But if all goes well I may have to buy a used one next year. My brother just purchased one, and it handles very nicely. I loved how it has more driver room than my s2k, plus it has back seat room to take an extra set of wheels/tools.

I absolutely hate the ridiculously light clutch. I am willing to bet stephen hawking would be able to depress the clutch. I guess my left foot is used to the ACT on the s2k.

the light clutch may be a toyota thing, my clutch is very light on my solara.

272rwhp from a 2.0T boxer - not bad. And for such a light car, that should feel plenty quick.

Only question is how well the stock internals will survive boost.

Waiting for videos of some 0-60 & 0-100 runs. :)

I wouldn't be worried about the internals. A turbo charged variant of this engine is being used in the JDM legacy.

Detonation is the main issue it seems. Such a high cr + boost = trouble.

does the variant in the brz use higher compression or more aggressive timing?

Yes since it is using DI. Though they are using a Subaru version instead of the Toyota sourced version they used in the BRZ.

Look at the torque curve in the video; 175ft/lb at 4k, 200ft/lb at 5k (that's peak). Not the greatest of torque curves and that means the turbo probably only added 50 ft/lb after accounting for drive-train loss to begin with. Those kind of gains, for what the kit probably costs, coupled with the increased wear on internals + need to do a re-tune just doesn't make sense. Maybe better kits will be released.

Stock ones dyno at ~160whp/130tq. You can't really expect more from 10psi.

Definitely. The clutch my parents' old Camry could be described the same way.

I would call a stock Honda or Subaru clutch heavy..but at least there's some feedback.

My bad. I was thinking the stock BRZ had 180tq (not 150). That's OK, but I still am skeptical on the gains for the effort here.

I think the EJ25 has been done in there, IIRC there was a 600+ HP version already made, so it indeed might be the right path for those wanting considerable power for a light car.

Imho ~300whp sounds like the sweet spot for the thing, but to each their own. Virtually everyone agrees that their stock power is ... not ideal.

EDIT : Here it is, a slightly misleading article, but this is an EJ25-swapped FR-S :D Hahahah they make it sounds like turbo'ing the 2.0 was good for 600HP. LOFL @ that.

I'm curious, who is saying that who has actually driven it? I found the 200hp to be a lot of fun when I took a BRZ for a spin.

One of my idiot coworkers bought a BRZ already as a 4th car, he already has an STI, an Escalade (puke), an FJ40, and now this. He wants to set it up as a drift car, but he says he's not even going to bother much with it until he gets it a huge power upgrade. He bought it in cash as a toy, but as-is it's not up to what he wants. He's spent more than the BRZ cost in mods for the STI and FJ, so I guess he can afford it. I think his exact words were : "my Escalade is faster than this".

Too bad they insisted on the stupid boxer engine. They could have used a standard Toyota V6 and had enough room for double wishbones, and much more power... and it would have been cheaper.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_GR_engine#3GR-FSE

3L V6 with direct injection
"The 3GR-FSE engine is rated at 256 PS (188 kW; 252 hp) at 6,200 RPM and 32 kg·m (314 N·m; 231 lb·ft) at 3,600 RPM."

Been reading forums on people tracking these things. Here is what I've gathered:

Faster than S2000 with mild mods, but if S2000 is running 255/255 full suspension and aero parts (mainly the wing) it is faster by about 4-5 seconds.

The BRZ/FT86 has a .29 Cd but if you add the spoiler and diffuser its like .28/.27.

If the BRZ had about 50 more hp it would be a few seconds faster than the S2000 which IMO is what I'm looking to get for a cheap track toy without having to go balls out with a miata.

Anyways carry on AT gay ragge
