Fixed:
I had the wrong connector on the modem. My labeling on the case was wrong for some reason.

I used to go to http://www.process-technology.com/processtechnol/faxback.htm
It's not working now. I found that by posting at Anandtech when I had fax transmission issues, fax reception being what I was testing there. Is there another site I can go to in order to have a fax sent to me? I'm having difficulties sending faxes and want to see if I can at least receive faxes. I had an external modem set up (Aopen), but have often had major difficulties with it, so I disconnected it and installed my 2977 USR internal hardware modem from another box. Still can't send faxes. I'm running Win2000, admittedly an old installation (09/2004), but I haven't had time to reinstall. I want to have a fax sent to me. I know there must be a lot of sites where I can do that. Thanks for any help.
Edit: I think this will work: http://www.sfgov.org/site/rentboard_index.asp?id=2155
