This thread is addressed to those who run computer shops, or, build or upgrade computer systems: How do you test your computer parts to see if they are bad? Do you use diagnostic equipment, and/or software? Is there any hardware or software diagnostics that can determine if the computer part, whether it be a power supply, mainboard, cpu, hardddrive, etc., was damaged by a lightning strike, or surge, or, just a bad power supply?

If you have enought spare parts, you can easily test the components. Or install them in a working PC. You would need a spare PS, mobo to test that particular type CPU(intel, AMD, socket, or slot) and RAM(sdram, edo, DDR, etc) and you would be able to test most all components.
