Is there any software out there that can test a cable modem to tell if it's possible going bad or has problems?

Seems my ISP says theres no problem with the signal going to my modem. But my problem is every now and then I'll start to lose connectivity. It will start out slow and then just die. EX: I can ping an address and I'll get get about 75% success, then it will drop to 50%, etc then just completly die.
I usually just unplug the modem for about a min and it will be fine for a while. But this has been going on for a week or so and has been getting worse.

How are you connecting to the modem?

When you do a power cycle, do you only reboot the modem?

What OS ?

Do you have any security applications running?

Connected through PCI NIC, CAT5

Usually this only happens late at night, because I can use the Internet just fine from 5pm to about 10pm and then it starts taking a crap. Yes I usually only reboot the modem, but I have rebooted the PC before too. PC is turned off every night.

Running Windows XP SP2 with firewall completely turned off.

No Security applications running.

Already ran multiple versions of Spyware/Adware cleaners.
Checked Netstat and came back with nothing.

I had a similar problem about a year and a half ago. My internet connection would just die every night around 8:00 PM. I could still see the other computers on my home network, so I knew it was not something wrong with my PC. I contacted my ISP who told me everything looked fine to the cable modem and always wanted to go through some long drawn out troubleshooting of my PC. I finally told them they had 24 hours to fix the problem or they could just remove their equipment from house. Guess what......it's worked perfect ever since. I have no idea what they did. All I know is they sent someone out to my house while I was at work and I've had NO problems since then.

Sorry about the long story.

Yeah usually I hate calling my ISP because of there crappy support, but the guy I spoke with last night was very helpful and knowlegable. So hopefully it isn't something on their end and I go and buy a new modem just to have the same thing happen, I'll be pissed.
