What is the best way to test and monitor to see if the hardware setup that I have would be sufficient for overclocking and the CPU wouldn't overheat?

Read the thread about overclocking that's stickied at the top of this forum.

Prime95 and IBT (Intel Burn Test) are my favorite tools to stress test your CPU. IBT runs the CPU harder and hotter, so I mostly use that to do real burn in testing. P95 is adequate for random stability testing.

I use speedfan to monitor temps daily, but I also use coretemp as a backup to confirm my temperatures if they seem strange.

Agree with the above...and always look away when stress testing. A watched pot never boils and a watched CPU never fries...oh wait...just do the above.

And use HWinfo or HWmonitor. OCCT is useful for both testing and monitoring. Just don't look at the screen. ;-)

Happy clocking!
