Testing a possibly broken power supply.

If you look at this thread It explains what happened http://forums.anandtech.com/me...8471&enterthread=y

So far I have tested everything except the CPU, and power supply. My mobo I know for sure is fizucked since I tested it with a power supply that should work. I don't have another mobo to test my cpu. I do want to test my power supply though but I don't want to fry another mother board. I have a multi meter I can use for testing but I am not sure how to go about doing that.

You have to short the wires to let it power on first. This can be done by crossing the green wire with any black wire on the 20 pin connector. I use a bent paper clip. Then use the multimeter to check the voltages on various rails. Connect the positive probe on the mm to a colored wire and the negative to any black wire on the rail. You can look up the color codes for the 20 pin, but the important ones are yellow=12v, red=5v, and orange=3.3v. Ideally these readings should be within 5% if its alright. You wont be able to check the amps though, since most mm's cant handle as much current as a psu puts out.
