Testicular Torsion, anyone had it?

I went to the urologist and he told me that's what was causing my intermittent pain there. This is how WebMD describes it.

<< "Testicular torsion is a twisting of the spermatic cord, artery and vein, which cuts
off the blood supply to the testicle and surrounding structures "
>>

What's been happening to me, is that it untwists and I'm fine in a little while, but it sure is painful. It's only happened to me a couple of times in the last year.

So the doctor said I needed surgery. It would be basic. Open me up and stitch the vessels to the side so that they didn't get twisted. I'm going ot have to have it done on both sides because I've had the pain in both of them. Doctor said the surgery is outpatient. I show up in the morning, and I'm out by the afternoon.

So my question is, has anyone ever had it? How's the recovery time, how bad is it, painful to walk, etc? How long before "things" function normally?

If you want, PM me if no one want's to reply in the thread :)

late.

Heard of it, but never experienced it.

Have you ever had any interest in a vasectomy? You might as well get that done while he's down there.

Or maybe he'll slip & give you a freebie.

John Starks, the NBA player, has had this problem recently. I believe they adjusted it "manually". Reports say he should be able to lead a normal life.

Good luck. Maybe hit the sperm bank. ;)

j/k :)

If that is what John Starks had, he played last night after having the surgery a week or so ago.

It was said he had a testicle removed. :Q

I could have sworn they removed his testicle. I was reading the news story about it, and the docs said in most of the serious cases, the torsion causes the tissue to die - so the testicle has to be removed or the patient risks gangrene.

TDP - whatever side-effects there are to surgery, it has to be better than a dead, gangrenous testicle. ;)

A buddy of mine had it about 10 yrs. ago. His twisted, but did not untwist, and he had to have surgery. Doctor told him he was lucky that he didn't wait to get it checked, because he could have lost the testicle completely. He said the sugery only lasted about an hour and that they used a local anesthetic----said it was painful, but not nearly as bad as the twisting. Had to take it easy for a couple of weeks, but he says he hasn't had a problem w/ it since.

I had it back when I was a young lad of 14. OH MY GOD THE PAIN!!! I'm feeling a bit sick just thinking about it. At first it felt as if someone grabbed them & wouldn't let go, but the pain increased as time went by. After about 45 minutes I couldn't take it anymore & told my brother to get mom because I think I needed a doctor. By that time it felt as though kickers were using my boys as footballs. I was in tears & thought I would pass out from the pain.

After I got to the hospital, they said I had to have surgery right away, and that I could lose one or both of my testicles. Talk about being in shock. Not more than an hour before I had to explain to my mom that my balls hurt really bad, and now some guy I didn't know was telling me that I could end up with no balls at all. It was not a good day to say the least.

It got better though, because I made it through the operation with both my boys intact!!!:D:D:D:D
I was kept for another day after the surgery. Walking was tough for about 2 weeks, and I don't swing in the breeze like I use to. However, I'm fully funtional baby and that's what counts!!:Q Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Happened when I was 15, twisted the sucker getting onto a bike. No pain since then has ever been as intense. Felt like I was being kicked in the nuts everytime my heart beat.

I had surgery - they cut open my scrotum and untwisted it. Took about a month to fully heal and I've had zero problems since. At least one still works because I have a daughter.
