The prices they are asking are a complete joke.

I was doing some probing about 3 weeks ago and all of my area dealerships are quoting ~2K over MSRP and won't budge an inch.

So an MR with no navi they want 42K and a GSR with no navi and no HID they want 39.

Funny thing is, I haven't seen a single one on the road, so I doubt they are selling very well.

Odd. I checked a few weeks ago and GSRs had a 5k discount.. could have got one with the aero kit (was on each and every one), but no HID for like 32k. HID was another 2k or so? They wouldn't budge on MRs though.

The GSR I looked at with the Rockford-non navi system was $33.6k according to its little window placard. I didn't see an MR on the lot.

I think the redesigned look of the new EVO is a huge improvement. The old one was pretty fugly. The old one looked like a Corolla with the rounded edges all squared off. I understand what they were going for with the whole rally background so the car needed a rally look with blunted edges and a short wheel base and fairly good ground clearance. The Subaru WRX pulls that off without looking like they went to the bargain rack for body panels and parts, the original EVO didn't. I had trouble reconciling that such an ugly little roller skate could actually bust a move, but I guess they are pretty quick.
The new one, while it may have watered down rally looks, looks 100 times better than the original.

This was purely internet so I didn't get to look at the stickers themselves. The lowest GSR they had was $37K(only one) which was red and three others above 38.5 - with no discernible differences in options.

Could just be my area, I guess.

My local Subie dealership wanted 37K with no BBS and no navi for the STI, I laughed at them too.

The same car over here will start at around £30k, so that?s $60k.

That's not quite how automotive currency works. The rule of thumb I've always found accurate was to take the british price and multiply it by 1.3 or so...

😕

All I'm saying is that just because the evo costs 30k pounds in the UK does not mean it will cost the equivalent $60k over here.

Not to mention that vehicles in the UK are typically a LOT more equipped with features than US models. Hell most of their subcompacts have premium digital audio / navigation systems available.

Yeah, I suppose.

I?m not exactly the best person to speak to when it comes to economics, etc.

Ehh I'm sorry, the Evo X is a watered down version of what an Evo is suposed to be. It's tamed down to be more appealing to the masses.

you can also say that the Evo has been watered down since Evo V. every version has been ... a little slower since then.
Fail.

I wouldn't say watered down any. The engine is just as potent and if not a little more powerful. The transmission is nothing short of amanzing. The main thing is that it is gaining a few pounds.
It growing up both in looks and curb weight.

Well that's the problem. Something that is SUPPOSED to be the hardcore street racer with pedigree like that shouldn't be tamed down. It should get faster and better with every generation. The Evo isn't something that should appeal to the masses. It should be ruff-riding and aggressive. Mitsubishi made the X softer and more upscale. Seriously, who wants to pay 40k for a Lancer??? That is ridiculous. Yes it does handle better because of the much better chassis but it's too expensive and not fast enough. Mitsu watered it down because since they aren't doing so hot here in the states. They needed every card to sell well. They can't afford a hardcore low-selling car.

That's why you get the RS model. A/C only and nothing else. That'll drop some weight and put the sprint times back up there.

I'm not totally disagreeing with you, but it's not doom and gloom for the Evo X. The MR IS quicker that the previous models on the track and just a hair slower in a 0-60 dash. I would think the RS will be even quicker.

Mitsu needs to lure the Audi, Subaru, Mazda , etc., buyers. Updating it to appeal to the masses was the way to go in order to do this.

Why should it be rough riding? Bullcrap if it "needs" to be rough. I don't want a car that makes me visit the dentist or visit a chiropractor everytime I hit a bump or pebble (yes, I jest). You can have a better ride and still hit the corners like a champ which this new one is doing.

I agree on the price point. 35k-40k is too much. The GSR I drove last week was 33.6k. Not too bad, but I would like to pay less if I were to get one. There was no MR to price at the time. I bet the prices will drop.

They didn't make the Evo larger and softer. They made the Lancer the Evo is based on larger and more upscale so more people would buy it. The Lancer is the revenue generator of the line, not the Evo. Once the Lancer is done the car is modified into the Evo. There is only so much they can do to reduce weight at that point, and they obviously can't shrink the car. It's rather silly to say it isn't fast enough, it was faster around the Top Gear track than the equally powered Evo VIII, and even if it was somewhat slower, is still a performance bargain if there ever was one.
