Test drove a 2000 Miata today :)

Not too bad of a car drove fine, and price is reasonable, but had a little oil on side of the valve cover, and timing belt still hasn't been changed at 95K.
But the main problem was I didn't feel emotional connection to the car like I felt with other Miatas. And I think the culprit is that it didn't have the sport suspension, and 14 inch rubber is doing a disservice to otherwise great handling car.

What other Miatas have you driven? The NB supposedly isn't as pure a sports car as the NA.

The valve cover gasket is a cheap fix and so is the timing belt (at least on an NA 1.8).

Drove NB 1999, but I think that one was LS with 15 inch rims.
How much is it to change timing belt? The only other thing was bottom seat cushion was kind of worn out, dude had ugly ass seat covers on it with flowers and what not 🙂 Couple small dents here and there.
He was asking 5K for it, which is pretty good in my area, and probably can bargain it down.

I'm kidding, btw. Coworker who was like 6'2 and 300 lbs bought the first generation Miata when it came out and we gave him shit for YEARS about it. 🙂

Hah, I love Miatas and S2K's, but I'm 6'4" ~240-250 (I fluctuate depending on how lazy I am with my workouts/eating), and I look RIDICULOUS in them.

The all-time most hilarious moment though, was me driving my USAF buddies' classic Triumph Spitfire. It was insanely difficult to steer around my knees, and to get my feet to press the right pedals.

Love my 95. Haven't driven a NB but can't imagine them feeling that different. I doubt the 14 rims are a problem but the tires on them could be. Just finished up replacing the convertible top on mine

To change the belt and water pump (might as well do at same time) on mine I was quoted $275. The valve cover gasket is a DIY job if you have a torque wrench, but otherwise I think it should be an hour of labor. There is also an O ring for the cam position sensor that leaks and that's easier to change.

The valve cover comes off during the belt change so it's a perfect time to do it. It requires a couple of dabs of RTV in the corners near the cams, as well. It was not a bad job at all.

I think you're supposed to use non-RTV silicone, so it doesn't stick. I got some clear stuff at O'Reilly Auto Parts to do mine, but never got around to it... Then I sold my Miata a week ago.

Decided to pass. Car like this is I sort of have to fall in love with to buy, and wasn't feeling that one. Some I've driven before I liked a lot more.

Never been all that impressed with the Miata myself.

Only the Porsche 911 has won more races than the Miata....and that's because the 911 has been around for longer than the Miata. Since it's release in 1989, no other car has won more 1st, 2nd and 3rd places that it has. Care about road racing history? No Ferrari have won more big name events outside of F1 than the Miata has won...and nothing since the F-40 has done that, either. Not the 360, not the CS, nor the F355 or that pile of shit 348 that came before it. No Maranello 550 or 575M has won anything noteworthy. The 430 carries on the legendary winless streak as does the Scuderia upon which is based upon; the F-50 has no big wins and the Enzo is the world's most capable boulevardier with no trophies at all.

Ferrari may be the most successful F1 team ever, but their road cars are embarrassing flops in competition. The Miata in every form has been one of the most winning sportscars ever.

But you are right.

Not at all impressive.

Get a MR-S Spyder. I'm 6'2 and 200lbs and I have more room in that than the 3 series I test drove before I got it. 🙂
