Strut rub was mostly corrected and the rest can be fixed with a Pedders kit. Yes, the 05/06 brakes are much better, but are easily retrofitted to the 2004 when you need a complete brake job. Wouldn''t pay to do it before, unless you have money to waste.
And as to engine parts, I would not be worried about getting them.

yes because a 400+ HP muscle car is comparable to your shit whinebox accord motor. When the fuck will you realize some people like driving cars that have tons of torque and power instead of some boring family sedan with OMG INTAKE MODZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ +.6 HP

Awesome!, lets all hope ZV eventually bans this troll...

I have been waiting, along with a bunch of other people I imagine...

Dont mind LOUISSSSSS, he'd rather drive a used civic, than get the gto. Bet he'd pay about the same as well.

That said, it was obviously a silly thing to test drive that. Now you either will buy it or feel essentially what amounts to hunger pangs for several days until you can finally get it out of your head. This is why I avoid test driving fun vehicles 😉

As mentioned above the styling is unfortunate. Otherwise I'm sure it's a nice vehicle, though the Pontiac badge is a concern now. How will spare parts be for this? Make sure you know what happened to other limited-sale (not many GTOs around) cars when the manufacturer went belly up.

I know this car is unique but for high teens I bet there are a lot of mustang GT options. I'd fell more comfortable with that car from a longevity perspetive although it's not as fast or unique.

😕

I was unaware that Holden was in any danger of going anywhere.

Since it's just a rebadged Monaro (which itself is just a coupe version of the Commodore, the best selling car here for as long as I can remember), parts will never be a problem.

Price is a bit high and the 04's brakes suck. Replace the strut mounts & bearings, get an alignment, and buy a set of 05-06 brakes from someone on ls1gto.com.

Most people who buy GTO's don't live in Austrialia. The parts may be available, but they won't be cheap or quickly available unless the problem is powertrain related.

all i have to say is most of the above is armchair racers.

I almost bought a 06, but without a folddown rear seat, it killed the deal that the extra 2k pounds I was already looking at put in.

It's a great cruiser though.

I wouldn't buy one. My buddy has an 04 and he's having tons of problems. Had to replace the rear diff among other major problems.

Yea I knew someone with A civic that had problems. Guess no one should ever buy another civic right?

What civic has AWD or RWD?

Third/sort of fourth generation Civic (depending on where you live) did.

If this doesn't scream badass, I don't know what does.

What does that have to do with it? Heck, I know someone that had their transmission replaced 5 time in 3 months on their Accord due to a never ending cycle of poorly made ones. How about the terrible 3rd gear issues that plague the RSX-S and Civic Si? Maybe we can also look at the transmission problem with the TL.

i have a hunch that he was beating on them 😉

Nice choice. I picked up an 05 GTO a few months ago myself. It's a great DD car, don't let any of the naysayers talk shit. You're driving a car that has a total production run of under 50k, under 45k I think actually. You're not that likely to encounter very many clones on your daily commute.

While you'll be crusing around in a 350hp car that has a very comfortable interior and ride, they'll be praising their civics and tell you how much better their ride is. I'll take the GTO over the civic every single time.

Not at all. The transmission in that year had major issues and many came straight from the supplier defective. It wasn't like he drove for days and it blew, 2 or 3 in a row had trouble right away and the dealer had to send them back. A regional rep came out to verify the issues and he agreed it was an issue with the units. That was at 40k and now he's over 120k and hasn't seen any problems. Plus if you knew this guy, you would understand that he hates spending money and would want his car to last 300k if possible.

So tranny issues in a Honda Accord are because he was beating on it, whats the most power that comes with 260-270hp? And who wouldn't be beating on a mean machine like the Honda Accord with FWD.

On the other hand the guy that had differential problems with his RWD V-8 6-spd car with 350-400hp stock was because the car is a piece of shit. Surely these cars don't get beat on.

Lots o' logic in this thread.

uh huh

parts won't be an issue. T-56 tranny, LS1 motor so everything related to your drivetrain is set if you need anything.

smaller odds and ends could add up if you get really unlucky, but even still it's a solid car. I would have gone 05+ though the LS2 is such a big step above the LS1.

However, if you H/C/I the LS1 you should be just fine.

thanks, to both you and everyone else who isn't a naysayer. I'm loving the car every time I get in it.

so you posted here asking for some replies obviously, and you're only open to people that praise you and ur car?

you're not open to those that critisize and u only want to hear the good side of things?

heres some more, you got ripped. gl finding some good service stations w/ pontiac being completely out of the automaking game. pontiac has also been known to make bad quality cars in the past 10 years and 2004 is smack in the middle of those "past 10 years". i'm predicting things go downhill from here, the "fun" part; the first few years of life for the car; have been driven and beaten away already and you know it...

if you're gunna post asking for some criticism, you better be open to both sides

My 99 grand am is pushing 175k with nary a problem. How about you take your GM bias and walk away? Like I said before in many threads you make. When an american car breaks it is quickly stated as the norm, when an asian car breaks it is labeled as an exception. The only battle here is not quality, it is PERCEPTION. Your spouting of uneducated criticisms of a brand you have never owned or pathetic.

You are a complete idiot or tool. The vote is sill out...

The GTO is not a Pontiac besides the badge. Holden has been making great quality cars for a number of years and the GTO is part of that. The car was overbuilt for the Australian outback with strong suspension components. The engine and transmission are top quality products in the industry and are used in Corvettes for year. The transmission is shared with the Viper, Challenger, Mustang Terminator Cobra, and Corvette.
