I like the GTO/Monaro. I'd be tempted myself if they didn't have a Vauxhall badge like they do over here. I could always get a bunch of Holden badges, I suppose...

Well unfortunately it's really not got a very good image. :shrug: I preferred the days when we got the Holden HSV's sent over on special order.

Two completely different cars. One of my close friends had an STi at the time I had my GTO. We swapped cars a couple times for a week or two so I was able to get a good feel fro the car.

My opinion is that if I had to spend a lot of time in my car, I'd take the GTO. The seats are very nice and it's the only car that I've taken on a 5 hour trip and didn't hurt a single bit. The STi on the other hand is torture after about an hour. I just can't see going on a road trip.

If it was having fun on back country roads, the STi would be the pick. The car was just so much fun going around the twisties. The GTO is fun because of the torque, but it takes much more work since the car is heavy.

Cruising around town would be the GTO just because it was easier to drive comfortably. The clutch is not too heavy and the torque allows or an easy launch. The factory cd player sucks, but can easily be replaced.

I like each car and would like to have both. You really need to decide on what you are going to be doing 90% of the time and if you can live with the car in that situation or if you can compromise.

Such vehicles exist?! :shocked:

are you saying it won't be harder now? so you're saying it will be *easier*? thats nice, about 8 GM/pontiac dealers/service stations have closed down in my area of NYC alone. its nice how you think that makes servicing your pontiac easier tho... okay they share parts with GM, but GM is out of the game also and lots of parts will NOT be easier to find.

if you read his quote, he disagreed with me saying that it won't be harder now to service pontiacs.
which implies it will be the same or easier. it certainly won't be the same since pontiac is now out of the game which means many if not all service stations will be gone. hence, he is saying it is easier to service pontiacs now, which is wrong.

One thing to keep on eye on with the car is the rear steats. If you don't treat the leather for the head rests, the leather will dry out and shrink causing the stitching to pull apart. I've been using oil leather conditioner on it since buying mine new. The headrests look new still.

This is true! A couple years ago I was looking at a brand new 06 GTO that was sitting on the lot for 1.5 years, and the stitching was pulling apart on the back seats pretty obviously.

This happened on the back seats in my '05. The dealer at the time fixed this under warranty. One other issue that I had was that the ebrake mechanism broke (the handle, not the brakes themselves). This was also fixed under warranty.
