It's an arcade car RPG.
It never said it was supposed to be a "sim" anywhere.
I guess none of you played the first one.
It was simple fun car porn with freinds.
buy and collect houses and cars and go race friends all over the island.

The second one is alot of fun so far. definitely higher than a bargain title.

Most people who are posting in this thread have played the first one. I still have it installed.

I never said TDU 1 was the LFS/GT5 of free roam racers, however it did have a decent physics model and the cars actually had a varying decently believable feel to them. The idea that they took this game in the opposite direction floors me, if you go to any TDU forum that is the opposite of what the majority of players wanted.

It makes you wonder about the people in charge. It was REALLY obvious what was needed. and they screwed that up. I wonder if the devs enjoyed the game they came up with.

Still have it installed, still fire it up from time to time, and I've logged close to 2,000 miles on the McLaren F1.

And then there's this:
"Test Drive Unlimited 2 puts some of the world's most desirable vehicles in the player’s hands. These are flawlessly replicated and finely tuned with Eden's world-class driving technology and performance dynamics."

Servers keep going up and down. Couldn't even log in and play earlier. My logitech rumblepad2 doesn't detect even though it's supposed to be supported. I'm no driving sim expert but not really feeling the physics in this one. I didn't read any of the forums or reviews before purchasing. The random steam ad I saw got to me. Didnt realize the casino was a DLC. Also dissapointed my fave game Blackjack is not in the casino :/

I still have some hope for this game if it will get patched correctly soon. I like the concept of the game. Never played TDU1 but used to play the old DOS Test Drive's....

I got around the controller issue by downloading a PS3 controller software that emulates the XBOX 360 controller.

I'd wait till a patch till considering purchasing at this point.

What the hell, any game that requires a server to be online in order to play by yourself is fail.

Anyway, assuming the servers are playable, I'll be playing under RockinZ28 if anyone wants to work on the social points.

Is there some way to enter friend's names manually and then be connected to the same server or what? Have no idea how it works, but add my name if possible.

I play just fine offline, but every 2 minutes it bugs me to get online so I can something "cool" which code for "shitty Facebook clone".

I am interested in knowing weather the crusing is satisfactory....
I am not really a driver...so hard core racing games really dont interest me.
My make or break descision would be based on weather the islands are FUN to just cruise around....that includes the tar roads/offroads and the general scenery.
Also am I able to access the entire world probably after about 30-40 min's in.

Is the day night cycle available ONLY in the online mode?

REALLY enjoyed TDU1 so if this is an improvement (gfx/islands/handling) over TDU1, I would be very much interested.

The game does seem to be getting some pretty harsh reviews both by websites and players alike....so just wanted to get a clear picture before I sink money into it.

Thank's.

BTW SL your review was what got me to hold on purchasing TDU2...

The off road bits are in my mind the best addition to the game. Its vary satisfying and fun.

As I'm sure you have heard by now, the handling seems to be a downgrade for the most part from TDU1. However, after playing it some more, I'd say if you aren't look for simulation you should be able to get used to it. Still frustrating at times for sure, but become less so (for me anyway)

Graphicswise it is soooo much nicer. The islands are beautiful now and very unique. The weather is satisfying as well. Its especially cool to have a thunderstorm at night. As far as I know the day/night and weather continue in offline mode.

It will probably take a bit longer than 40 minutes to gain access to Hawaii, maybe an hour or two. But it is quite early on.

The single player side missions are done better. More varied and the voice acting, while not great by any means, is loads better than in TDU1.
Oh, and push through the awful cut scenes, its worth it.

Oh, and did I mention how awesome the offroad is? Because its worth the cost of the game itself in my mind. The Mercedes SUV (the name escapes me at the moment) is so far my favorite have-fun car. Its fast, handles well, and you can take it off road anytime. Tons of fun had with that.

This game really is fun for just cruising around and having fun. I think it takes some time to get used to some of the quirks, but I think its worth it.

Alright, I found live365 and am enjoying life again. I tried Pandora but it sucks balls and cuts you off after a day of listening.
For anyone unhappy with the 2 stations and 4 songs to be found in TDU2, I recommend internet radio playing in the background. Ditto TDU 1 but at least they had 5 stations with about a dozen songs each. Much better. But I cant believe I spent all that time copying a crapload of MP3's into 4 special directories just to listen to them in game. Internet radio is a lot better for long term listening.

Please note: I still hate TDU 2.

I'm going to Oahu next week for GPS training. I'll only have a few hours to explore but I want to take pictures to compare to TDU1, and TDU2 if I ever get it.

holy hell. This game continues to surprise me at how shitty it is. Thought I would try it again after it's had a few updates. It still doesn't detect my MOMO wheel. When I started it up, the wheel was unaligned so I had to change the settings to steer with the keyboard, then go and change them back to the wheel. Meanwhile the menu is still just as annoying to navigate as ever. Once I got the steering working, suddenly the other light on my wheel lights up as I'm driving and now the wheel is stuck all the way to the right. The force feedback is keeping it there. If I turn it to the left, it just goes back to the right. Even though it's turned to the right, it's steering to the left in the game.

I've even exited the game and the wheel is still stuck.

I forgot about the pics. I took hundreds of pics and geotagged them with my GPS tracklog. I'll have to make some kind of interactive map.

Anybody recognize this tunnel from the game? I think it was in TDU1

Its shocking how different & screwed up the handling of the cars are. It takes SOOO long to get the fast cars right up to speed, the handling is completely different & fake. A mercedes #### box does better & faster cornering than the Ferrari enzo from 1st game.

I wasnt gonna bump this from last night because I thought the conversation was long over.

But I think the general consensus is they finally got the MMO part right, but in the process they completely ruined what had been a decent racing game from before. Now its just a more thorough version of GTA.

Yea, kind of a travesty. This *should* have been a game I'd love to sink hours into, but I haven't even bought it yet. I wouldn't want to put a number to the amount of time I spent with the original.

well it's buggy...
there are roughly 1/3rd the number of cars that were in the original it seems.. and from very limited selection of manufactures.
The game is ok.. not great at all and I loved the first one.

You would have thought they would have learned from the successes as well as the mistakes the first one made.

Oh.. and no car packs or REAL DLC content fixes or anything else..yet almost what 6 months into release?
