The 6 isn't based off the Mondeo.

Mazda 6 uses the same chassis as the Contour and 626.
No, it isn't. Its a new platform.

The Contour was based off the Mondeo platform, and the latest 626 was off its own platform (the old 626 shared platforms with the Mondeo).

The dealer told me it's the same chassis as the 626. Maybe he's misinformed, but I can't image why he would say that if he didn't know.

I agree 100%. That didn't seem to me like it would be something worth lying about, or even mentioning unless he knew it. Thinking it's a 626 platform didn't make the car any more or less attractive to me.

My eyes are on this car, but nothing beats my Grand AM GT and my next car is the Grand AM GT SC/T.

Umm, the Mazda 6 toasts the Grand Am in build quality, interior quality, performance, braking, handling, safety, and 95% here would tell you that it stomps the Grand Am in looks too.

Grand Am = plasticy interior, side cladding ribbed for her pleasure, gawdy red instrumentation lighting, and shoddy build quality. To even mention a Grand Am in the same sentence is doing a disservice to the 6 🙂

6's go up against Camrys, Accords, Passats, and Altimas. Grand Ams go up against cheap Malibus, Kis Optimas, and Hyundai Sonatas😛
