It gets 29mpg and costs half as much.
BTW-If you drove the gas powered version 10,000 miles a year you'd spend $1552/year on gasoline. $5/day equals $1825/year in electricity (although, I doubt it would cost this much...just basing this on the OP's math). Still, $50,000 buys a lot of gasoline.
Exactly. I think the Tesla is a complete joke. It's utterly retarded. Why they build an economical technology into a platform that people generally don't have any worries with gas mileage about is beyond me, kind of like the Audi (?) hybrid supercar. Great. I just spent a hundred or two hundred K but damn look my mileage per gallon is higher.
I think the 0-60 times for the Tesla were pretty dramatic, something like 3.9 IICR. Other than that it's more a novelty IMO..
or you can get a Z06 for something like $65k that does 0-60 in 3.5 and pocket $30k in cash.
plenty of more compelling, non-electric vehicles, than the tesla IMO.
Sorry, but I would MUCH rather have the Tesla. I could be a Civic and throw lots of money at it and come out with a faster car, so what? The fun part of this car is that it's completely electric, which you couldn't get out of a Corvette without throwing even more money at.
The interest in it is because it is electric and it's fairly long range. A Prius is $25k and goes 10 miles on batteries alone.
And this is regardless of enviromental impact. It's new technology and should be embraced. Something has to change, ICEs just aren't going to cut it forever.
