Also, the design language is straight Porsche; they took the sedan and transformed it into an "SUV". It's exactly the way the Cayenne is a transformed 911....

If it has the dual motors and traction of the Model S D trim, then it will be better in ice and snow than just about any other vehicle on the road. There are videos of the Model S in ice and snow on YouTube.

I was talking about opening that door with sheet of ice or inches of snow on the roof

Why are people calling these "Gull Wing" doors.

They're "Falcon Wing" doors. :colbert:

How am I suppose to put my kayaks and storage boxes on the roof of my sports utility vehicle? Does look like there are hitches for the model S so I assume one will be available for the X as well so I can at least haul bikes and things around.

Ooh, another excellent point! Although, the range is too limited for the SoCal folks to get to the best CA ski resorts.

At home, but not every workplace has covered parking.

So brush off whatever accumulated during the day and then drive home. People shouldn't be driving with snow/ice buildup anyway - that can fly off the roof into the car behind you.

Nose seems wonky, I think colour choice will hide that though. Overall looks real good.

The doors look really awkward. I think I'd be more embarrassed having them open like that all the time instead of braggadocious like a lambo. $130k performance SUVs seem supremely pointless.

Those in Tahoe and Mammoth.

You can easily reach Mammoth from Southern California in a Model X. There is Superchargers in Barstow, Mojave, and Lone Pine. You would need to use slower destination charging in Mammoth but Tesla does have a Supercharger in the Permitting process in Mammoth. The Lake Tahoe route is fairly easy with the Super-Chargers up the I-5. There is now even a SuperCharger in Truckee. If you prefer the I-99 there is a Supercharger in the permit process in Fresno. If you want to take the Model-X to ski resorts from Southern to California to either Mammoth or Lake Tahoe you are not going to have a issue. That is why the Super-chargers are so important to Tesla's long term success.

At that price, I think I'd rather have a Model S and a traditional SUV/truck with crewcab. Not a fan of how it looks either.. though I'm not too big on the Model S' aesthetic either.

Those back doors could be interesting in the typical garage...

Then again, relatively few of these will sell.

I think that the people who can seriously afford this car at this point are the ones who can afford to have a custom garage built for it.

This car is cool and all, but it isn't giving me much hope for the Model 3 being available at it's promised $35,000 price point.

It's funny how critical so many people are in this thread. The thing does 0-60 faster than a Cayenne Turbo or Turbo S, it's a total monster in acceleration. Most people will never dream to drive it 250 miles in a day. More like 50-60... When they do once every year or so, they can take a 30-minute break every few hours at a supercharger station.

Most of these will sell in California (no snow or ice in almost any target demographic I'm sure) and I'm guessing most garages are easily tall enough to accommodate the doors opening. My garage is tiny (1940s house) and I think it would fit without issues, but I'd have to test to see. I'm guessing they did a lot of research and testing on this. I can't imagine ever buying an SUV, but how is this thing not way cooler than any SUV ever made? It's even safer than any SUV ever made.

Sure it's expensive but won't the MSRP come down to 80k or something in full production (http://www.caranddriver.com/tesla/model-x)? I thought it was just these early release ones that were over $100k. Even so, if you can afford it, what other car would you rather drive? I guess living in city environments is why this thing seems so neat. 99% of people here wouldn't even drive it on dirt roads, let alone snow or ice etc.

The MSRP is for the signature edition with all the options. I think there will be a base model that is closer to $80k. I don't see the price dropping on the Model S or X anytime soon. Tesla has enough demand for every car they can build so they are going to keep the price at the level that demand will bear.
