Tesla Cybertruck

Yup. To keep the monthly payments low. Because the average/median American doesn't understand how loans work.

But also, we've created a society where a car is a requirement. So you need reliable transportation to get to work in the first place. Car breaks down? No income, AND you have to shell out for thousands in repairs on top. So a new/reliable vehicle is almost a requirement rather than a luxury. Because a used car that's not under warranty is a roll of the dice.
(Granted, the median car price still says people are not opting for small/budget vehicles)

That's one of the reasons I haven't gone electric yet...I rely on my car for work. A 500-mile battery would quell my range anxiety.

I feel like if the cyber truck starts selling at 15k then Tesla would be in such trouble id avoid them entirely given how connected they are

Yeah that's true, probably end up a paperweight if they take down their servers. Although I'm sure there would be a hacker community that would find out how to bypass all that stuff and get it running, probably the thing of having to replace a circuit board with a custom hacked version. In theory EVs should actually be simpler than gas cars but every manufacturer is making them a computer on wheels.

Either way it could be a fun project car to try to get it going. If you were to fix all the issues it has, it would be decent. It's just not worth the retarded price they're asking.

This guy stuck a M3 in a Delorean:

What's your commute like? Because if you can charge in a garage overnight, you can absolutely make an EV work. And then you're "filling up" cheaply, as well as basically never having to stop at a gas station again.

I would happily jump on a Mach E or a Kia/Hyundai variant except I have no need to replace my car.

If someone were buying it for me, I'd love an F150 Lightning. It can do everything I need it to do. Out of my budget though. I've never owned a new vehicle, and I doubt I ever will. New cars cost more than I'm willing to pay.

That's my problem:

1. I got stuck in my rental at the start of COVID. No chargers here & I don't have a garage. Housing prices nearly tripled in my area & haven't dropped.

2. I have an unusual commute, as I service customers all over my state; thus my commute varies quite a bit. Some days is 5 or 6 hours total in the car between locations. I do have customers with regular chargers & there are Superchargers in my state (although sparse, so it'd require a commute leg to be added).

3. I don't trust any manufacturer's EV range claims in the real world (A/C, highway speeds, hilly areas, added weight from work equipment, etc.). I sometimes carpool with contactors who have various EV's & the range anxiety kicks in for me lol. My hard mental line is a 500-mile battery.

My buddy commutes in his MY with FSD from Hartford to NYC (around 100 miles one-way, plus parking has charging available). After the last update, his entire drive is now hands-free (well, you have to jiggle the wheel). He used to pay for an shared apartment a few days a week in the city, but spent the rent money on MY payment instead (which saves him like $300/mo lol). So that's pretty cool.

Due to Elon's politics, the Cybertruck is now a target for vandalism. I don't think many people care about the normal Tesla cars, but the CT's design is so outlandish that it's an easy latchpoint for people to pick on. Particularly as a business vehicle, it might be a bit too divisive haha. The main thing I was looking for was a 500-mile battery. Technically, the Lucid Air Grand Touring offers this...starting at $125,000 lol. $2,000/mo isn't really saving me any money long-term hahaha. Also, I am unfortunately not in the ATOT Baller's Club lol.

My current ICE takes 2 minutes & 30 seconds to fill up from empty at any gas station (timed it lol). I'd actually LOVE the electric VW Bus, but 234 miles for $60k kind of ruins the value proposition lol.

I'm not really a truck person, but I consider the F-150 Lightning the BEST EV I've driven to date! Phenomenal design all the way around.

I would love an F150 lightning, but yeah, can't justify spending that kind of money. It's basically a second mortgage. Even the gas cars now, the prices are completely ridiculous. I need to start looking for a new vehicle since my truck is on it's last legs and keep looking into just biting the bullet and going new, but just can't justify that. There is not much on the used market either, think people are just keeping their vehicles longer now due to the insane prices. Even the regular sedans start at like 30k now.

I'm still shocked that a Civic starts at $24,000...

There's no such thing as a cheap truck. The F150 I'm driving now was $10K at auction, 170k miles, and I think that was a good deal.

Just checked here, 30k to 39k depending on which model on the Honda.ca site. And that's before taxes, so add 13% to that. 😱 A Civic! That used to be considered a cheap econobox car.
Your in Canada so that's not exactly representative of USA pricing.

Here is a baseline-ish civic at my local dealer.

Or else...they'll lower the prices & add incentives! They sold less than 39,000 Cybertrucks in 2024:

Free Supercharging for life on the Foundation Series Cybertrucks

Unless:

1. You buy a different Tesla (won't transfer)
2. You sell it (tied to the original owner, not the truck)
3. You excessively charge it (I'd imagine for ride-sharing)

In addition, the AWD CT now starts at $72,490 with the Federal tax credit. Add in a $1,000 referral discount & the price drops to $71,490. Some of them are going for even less new on the Tesla inventory website.

$1,127/mo for a car is still insane:
