It's a D.A.R.E. truck. They apparently use exotic cars as part of their "outreach" program. Out of context, it isn't bad way to advertise. Might be considered cost effective compared to other options. I'd question how valuable DARE is, and whether or not that's a good use of police resources.
Is that an anti drug thing?

Like "look at this flash car! Isn't it amazing? Bet you'd like one! Well you can't afford it! Oh well better sell some drugs until you can then!" sort of thing?

Our DARE cop got to drive a brand-new Camaro. Looking back. that dude had a great job:

1. Teach DARE to kids & give out swag
2. Drive a cool car
3. Stay jacked

The guy looked like Ronnie Coleman, he was HUGE! Looking back, it's clear he was on steroids, which now that I think about it, was an odd usage choice for someone preaching to not do drugs LOL

Drug Abuse Resistance Education, a grade-school anti-drug program. Many cars were "donated" by local drug dealers lol. Sometimes dealerships would donate a car for free publicity:

I mean if the police wanted to help people not ruin their lives they could just not arrest people for minor issues! Getting a police record for minor stuff is going to ruin your life a hell of a lot more than smoking a bit of pot!

Honestly, do you really need studies? Believe it or not, I was a teenager once, and I know what I'd think of cops preaching trite bullshit. I don't think teens have changed that much in... Well, a long ass time D^: :^D

The people of Irvine must enjoy paying taxes. Either that or the cops stole it got it through asset forfeiture.
Irvine is a wealthy city and AFAIK it's well-run. Well, at least by SoCal standards. 🤣 There's a lot of unseen bad governance even in tony Orange County, and this GOP MFer takes the damn cake:

TIL D.A.R.E. is still a MFing thing LOL.

Talk about expensive mistakes

I wonder if you could put little plastic air rams next to the lights to blow snow off? Those might plug up, but it would be cheap to try. If you're stuck with a white elephant, you might as well try to make the best of it.

Resale value's gotta be shit on these, right? You bought it, you're stuck with it? I was just thinking what it would take to get me interested enough to buy one. I think $5k tops for a like new CT. Honestly, I'd have to be in the right mood to even pay $5k. It isn't a truck, it sucks offroad. Probably leaves tracks like a Cat D7(weight) if you take in the grass or something. Fills the whole driveway. Looks stupid, and ages like milk. It only gets worse looking after you drive it off the lot. It's got nothing going for it except it's eyecatching, and most people probably think "Look at that douchebag" :^D

To give you an idea on resale I checked out recent sales on Cars and Bids. It's an online auction site similar to Bring a Trailer. The nice thing about this is it shows actual selling prices not just asking prices like Caravana, Autotrader, ect. Places like C&B or BAT are enthusiast online auctions sites as well so sometimes the selling price is a littler higher because of that.

Honestly all EV resale values are garbage right now. The resale value on my 2023 Mach-E is about half compared to what I paid for it new 2 years ago and other EVs aren't fairing much better. Sucks for anyone who bought new but if anyone is in the market for a used EV now is a great time to buy.

I also agree with you that as the "newness" of the CT wears off and people start to realize just how bad they are the resale values will probably go even lower.

I wouldn’t take one if it was free (provided I somehow wasn’t allowed to immediately drive it to Carmax and resell).

I glanced over it on lemmy. Looks like a rented truck filled with ghetto flammables. So yea, it was an incompetent bomb.
