Terro Ant Bait.

Anyone used this bait before? I put some out around the house and seen a couple ants chowing on it. I put some under the kitchen sink and i see about 15 ants under there. Its been 1 week since i put this stuff out. Im really hoping its going to work otherwise my kitchen is going to be overran D: We usually see 1 or 3 every hour in the house before the bait. Now we none unless you look under the kitchen sink where the bait is. Under there we see a crap load of them. The bait is keeping them in that 1 location now which is the kitchen. eww

Im going to keep the females in the house from under that sink while this bait crap is there. It would freak them out and they will smash every single one of them which will ruin the killing process of this bait.

I've used it with good results. Usually the ants are gone in 4-6 days. If you still have them after a week you may have a very large colony outside. If that's the case you might be better off using the outdoor products.

D: No, but we have some work to do outside on the house. I think this baiting is almost useless, but it should help alittle. We have those vines that grow on the house and i think that is attracting them onto the house then resulting they find a way into the house.

I was thinking about using the outdoor bait around the house, but i think it would be useless with the veins growing on the house.

Does not work that good. Check out Advion Ant Bait Gel from Dupont.

I saw that the exterminator used it when he came to rid my ants a few years ago. Worked awesome. Not available in big box stores; i think it's available on amazon or doyourownpestcontrol.

I bought a few tubes for myself and if ants ever pop up i put down a few dabs and they're gone in 24 hours. I have yet to go through 1 tube.

I don't use an exterminator anymore.

Does not seem to work on carpenter ants (had those at our vacation house).

I've had great results with Terro but when I put the stuff down it was completely swarmed with ants. If you're only getting a few they may not carry enough back to kill the colony.
 
I like the stuff I think also terro that comes in yellow containers. You can leave drips of it around the place and ants are on it like flies to sh*t. In truth though if you have a real infestation you want to go online and order cypermytherin. Depending on state, you can only get watered down nonsense from home depot et al. Cypermytherin is in products like Demon WP, but online you can also find knocksoffs that are the same thing.

I'm going on about this stuff because if you spray around the outside of your house a foot or two from walls, making a trench of death, fvcking everything dies. All of it. It all dies. Ants, spiders, children, everything.

I just noticed the ants under the sink yesterday 😱 they might've been under there in huge groups during the week and haven't thought to check it.
 
From the activity im seeing under the sink im pretty sure there getting in from around this area. This is the most amount of ants i seen in the house since i lived here.

I have no idea currently. I only seen stragglers on the bait posted along the kitchen wall for the last few days. I dont see them there anymore as they have all moved to under the sink. So either the ones that loved the wall bait are dead or they either moved to under the sink.

What i do know is the numbers are greater under the sink then i seen around the house. So not exactly multiplying, but defiantly a bigger number of ants.

The pictures in the 1st post are the number of ants after i opened the cabinet then ran and got my camera. By the time i got the camera they already ran and hid and only a few stayed on the bait

Found one dead ant on the kitchen floor this morning. Found one ant dying on the kitchen counter today. So this stuff does work. Hopefully it makes it back to the nest.
 
They love this stuff, and once found they will bring more ants back. It doesn't kill them right away, and that's why it works so well. They bring it back to the colony and share it with the queen.

You have to be careful though. If you have a few ants here or there, don't use it. Try and find out where the ants are actually coming from, and use it within the path on the outside of your house. Otherwise you're actually encouraging the colony to move into your house. If they're already taking over your house though, then yea might as well use it indoors.

I have had hundreds if not thousands of ants from two different colonies on these bait stations for the past three weeks...the colonies seem to be thriving on the stuff.

This. I gave up on all the baits and bought a box of Borax. Mix it up with some sugar and water, place in old cream cheese container with holes punched on the sides, problem solved. Most effective bait I've ever used.
 
it's like a bagless vacuum... you get all warm and fuzzy inside because you can see it working - the ants swarm to it. That's enough to know.

Cypermytherin = nuclear death

Best all around insecticide on the market right now.
 
Why are these products called "bait" instead of "poison?"

This is the way I understand it:

  • Bait goes in a trap, and the trap might kill, but the bait itself doesn't kill.
  • Poison kills after consumption.

Ah yes. The liquid baits are wonderful.

Every time I see a few ants in my house, I leave out a couple of liquid baits. The next day, I'll see a ton of ants inside harvesting from them, but that's it. No more ants the next day.
 
Terro's liquid ant baits the only kind that worked in my old apartment in San Francisco. It took awhile, but eventually I saw dead ants everywhere where they tended to be.

Raid and a few other brands were completely useless.

They're really a combination of bait and poison. The bait gets the ants to consume the poison, which as Sagalore noted is slow acting and gives the ants time to pass it on to the queen. Once the queen becomes infertile or dies (depends on the active ingredient) that's it for the colony.

I don't use this stuff inside the house, but I use the granular form around the foundation and in gardens/beds as perimeter defense. Seems to work pretty well. I also spray door and windowsills with a generic insect killer every couple of weeks as an added bonus.
