My fleet! It's been ripped from me. OH NO!!! We have a new IT manager and he notice Seti running on a PC and told me to take it off. Also if I had any others to take them off as well before he finds them! I just lost.....

5 P4 1.8's
1 dual P3 igig
6 P3 700's

I think I am going to cry. 🙁

That sucks man 🙁

I think you should take it off, and then go talk to him and ask him why he wants it off, If he says that it slows dwn the computers, then mention that it's been installed for xx weeks, and no one has ever complained that it's slow yaddy yaddy ya...and see what happens.

But don't push too hard tho, don't put your job on the line over Seti

Sorry to hear that MoFunk. We've lost so many fleets because of this.

I'm with Confused here. Do as he says but ask what his reasons are for removing it. If it's security you could mention that there's millions of users using the SETI client on who knows how many millions of machines and not one instance of a hack or security breach as a result. If it's because it slows the PC you could see about running it in off hours. Might not get you 100% of your production back but you could get 50% - 66% or so.

Well I had most of ths clients running on off hours. But we had a person get fired and it was a P-700, so I put Seti on it. He logged into that one and saw that the CPU was running at 100% So he wants them all off. He is a closed minded "COMPUTER DUMMY". He thinks that if you run a CPU at 100% all the time that it will fry in a few months to a year. I have already tried to talk to him about it and gave him al the facts. He said HELL NO, not on my servers you dont! He just started this week and is trying to throw the message out that he is the man! Oh well. I still have my 2 home systems and 3 other work systems that are used by us in IS and he has no access to. It's a bummer, but like was said before it's not worth my job. Besides, the rate he's going he will get canned in a month. He's a real jerk! Anyway there will still be some "Mo-rigs" crunching for the TeAm, that wont ever stop!

Dang dude, that stinks.

If he was such a "Techno weenie" he says he is, he would already be running SETI. :Q:Q:Q 😉

Like you said, it's definetely not worth your job. Just hope that he either comes to his senses or gets fired. Someone who thinks running a CPU at 100% kills it in a year probably shouldn't be in that position anyway...

The guy sounds like a dick, but don't do anything silly. Just accept it.

(and spit in his morning coffee when the chance presents itself 😛)

I have a real problem with people claiming company property as their own, aka "my servers" "My workstations" "my keyboards" my response to any of my fellow employees that use these words is "last time I checked attbi owned this stuff you just keep it nice and tidy for them, now go get the dusting wipes, you get to clean 5 of "your" servers. then make new labels for "your" servers with ATTbi <server type> <IP address>.

I have alot of clean, nicely labeled servers 🙂.

once people find out he is an MSFT grad he will be shahootz for a job.
