Ive been having a look around the net and it seems I can possibly install a dual core processor, looking around I see the AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Socket AM2 3.0 GHz CPU Dual Core available - would this be a worthwhile upgrade?

The thing is I was just looking for a "cheap solution" for a bit of casual gaming on my GF's PC rather than a full on gaming rig... ;)

How old is the windows install you're currently on? I bet a clean install with the latest drivers would clear it right up.

I've been thinking about doing a re-install - must be at least a year or more since I last did one.

To be fair though it runs well enough with most applications.

I've just won a used AMD Athlon 64 X2 2.2 GHz 4400+ Processor for $13.49 + $6.99 shipping on eBay - hopefully this will show some improvement!

I've also done a BIOS update to version R01-C0 for the installed Acer (ECS) EM61SM/EM61PM motherboard.

According to this thread there should be some overclocking options but can't say I see any at all...

You did make sure the 4400+ is socket AM2, right? 4400+ also comes in socket 939, which won't work with your board.

However that is a good price and will be a huge upgrade. You should basically double your framerates.

Almost certain its an AM2.

s939 prices are still through the roof. No way would a 939 X2 be had for less than $50 these days.

I did a quick check with Sisoft and it reported that it was an AM2 processor - of course I should really double check but I'l wait till the CPU arrives now
