Terrible Day for the Oven to Crap Out...

BoomerD

No Lifer
Football Sunday, my wife was making chicken enchiladas, brownies, and cupcakes. (yeah, I know...odd combination.) 😛

She had the cupcakes and brownies all mixed up and in the pans...started the oven...and nothing. Dammed thing wouldn't heat. Not sure what the cause of it is...possible gas solenoid, possible circuit board. (dammed electronic stoves)
Fortunately, it's still under warranty, so I'll call for repair tomorrow. (thankfully, we sprung for the extended warranty)

Ended up cooking everything in the gas BBQ. Not quite as accurate of temperature control as the oven, but we got it done. (brownies didn't rise very well...but they still cooked.)

Does the control panel look/act, *Funny*? if so it's probably the circuit board. What I find weird about this is, it won't even let you use the GAS burners. Our new home came with all GE appliances in the kitchen. The stove quit 3 times, (once before we moved in), the refrigerator once,(circuit board) and the microwave twice. We now have a whole house warranty that covers EVERYTHING with a $50 service call. It would seem that computers are taking control over everything.
Stove, can I haz cupcakes? I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

Those oven control panels are expensive, too! I paid $75 for a replacement oven timer on my oven, and another $15 on the "overlay" for the timer. The cost of the overlay really pissed me off, since it's really just a big sticker.

Nah, the controls LOOK fine and the dammed oven even makes the "humming noise" that it does when it's operating...just no gas. The top burners work fine.

I just got off the phone with the warranty folks. They'll be here Wednesday afternoon...and there's NO deductible. From troubleshooting at the GE site, it could be a variety of problems. I'll let the repairman figure it out.

Mine is the GE profile with a gas top, and electric oven. I can't imagine a gas oven "humming". Perhaps your problem is with those ninja beavers that have "dammed", things up. Of coarse, I could be wrong. 😉

We had a GE gas range that came with our house. Everytime the oven stopped working it was the ignitor. Cost around $30.00 IIRC.

Ours is also a Profile with the glass top and convection oven...and don't be so coarse...😛

Hopefully I was the only one who read the thread title and mistook BoomerD's avatar as a Swastika and chuckled.

Note to self...don't buy GE appliances. Seems like everyone I know with GE stuff has had it break eventually, I thought it was a fluke, guess not.

I will say, the range is something like 4-1/2 years old...but, yeah, it seems to be fairly common with GE appliances...and all the others as well.

Your shit usually breaks that fast?

Never before, but in recent years...Kenmore (whirlpool) washer...lasted about 5 years, Kenmore (kitchenaid) dishwasher, giving me problems at about 5 years...my last clothes washer lasted 19 years...and the dryer still worked fine when we replaced the set. The last dishwasher was 10 years old and still working when we replaced it...
