I don't really see any goal or accomplishment that the parents could have hoped to achieve by keeping their kids like that. What's the point? Wouldn't it be easier and more beneficial in the long run to just let them live like normal? The only reason I can think of as to why the parents would do this would be to save money by taking as poor care of their children as possible.
