No one pays sticker... but - you don't go in to a dealership a month before you want to purchase to negotiate your price... Read the sticker for an idea on what you are expected to pay...

When you have money in hand and are there to buy a vehicle you are now in the position to start negotiating final payment + addins they are going to give you (tinted windows, less tax, etc)

Isn't there a way to just bypass the dealership yet? That way you could use them for their test drive services and then order the car you want. That'd be sweet.

Hyundai is not the POS it used to be. They've made HUGE improvements in the last few years. They're not up to Toyota or Honda levels yet, but they're getting closer. I'd buy a Hyundai over a Chevy.

You're not going to get a price without showing intention to buy. They're afraid that you're just going to use their price to dicker with somebody else. The way to get their attention is to be a buyer, not a looker. If they ask what it'll take to get your business today, say "give me a better price than the last place". Trust me, they'll have a price in front of you so fast it'll make your head spin. Then you can leave.

I had no problem when I went to the ford dealership. I went during the middle of a slow weekday and made it very clear to the guy that I wasn't sure if I wanted to buy, and that there was no way I was going to buy within two months (was going to be a graduation present to myself). The guy was nice, made a low pressure sales pitch, and gave me a few numbers. He then called me 1.5 months later to ask if I was still interested. I didn't end up buying, but it certainly beat some the the high-pressure dealers I got to listen to when I went car shopping with my dad.

Domestic car dealerships actually tend to be low pressure compared to "imports". This may explain part of the sales shortfall, but it's cool nonetheless.

even tough i think car dealerships are YMMV, that kind of shows you what brands to stick with, doesn't it?

btw the new sonata is a pretty nice car.
