The family just got scolded by the camp commander. Not one remarkable character so far. All cookie-cutter, very bland and, in my mind, totally expendable and replaceable, like in V. Doesn't look promising.

This is just sad because the concept of the show has a lot of promise. I'm not sure why it's so hard for them to invest in character development and writing when they're clearly willing to invest in other areas. Maybe there simply aren't that many really good writers out there?

I didn't watch the show, so I don't know the details, and this has probably been brought up several times, but I have one very important question regarding the premise which is, as I understand it--going back to the Jurassic in order to re-establish human civilization (they can't come back) b/c the future is on it's way towards disaster.

question: what do they propose to do when the meteor, which they know full-well will strike the Earth in some millions years, unleashing massive worldwide extinction?


Are they just there to establish a human history and assume that it will get wiped-out, anyway?

Communication could be dopne by putting notes (drawings) on the walls of caves. You don't actually have to go thruogh the rift to get data to the future. But this also means that some people coming throguh bring notes with them for those doing the communicating.

Agree with this. The basic premise is fine. But it looks like some execs dictated how the writing should go and/or hired writers on the cheap.

They explicitly state in the episode that they believe they are in a different timeline because they couldn't find the probe in the future. If they could communicate with the future through a means other than through the rift, then they obviously would not hold that belief.

Besides - if they didn't communicate through the rift, and they were on the same timeline, the future would receive all communication and history from the terra nova colony at once.

• They somehow knew the rip in time went to the past and not the future.
  They could observe the position of the stars and the moon in the galaxy and calculate what year it would be on earth

Well with 20 million years warning. They can find where it is coming from way ahead of time and deal with it in some fashion by then. I'd feel pretty confident they have some pretty badass space ships in 20 million years time.

Does anyone think, or care, that humanity will live another 20 million years from now? A meteor could cause an extinction next week for all we know. 20 million years "guaranteed" (alternate timeline so they don't truly know) is better than living day to day as we are basically doing now. You might as well be concerned about the sun going super nova.

The governments of the present day and the past claim they aren't on the same "time stream" and can't go Back to the Future, but there have already been some clues that this might not be true. I think this is where people are getting caught up. The show has told you one thing, but some of the things that have happened are bringing that into question. I think if you give it a few more episodes, the cognitive dissonance of "time stream" separation and the inability to go back will be resolved.

I think the show will ultimately reveal that they are on the same "time stream" and that the main leader, 6ers, and a small group of people around the main leader know this. They have been sent back for a different reason than just to survive and the plan is that they will either provide resources for the future (ex. by hiding them somewhere) or eventually return through the rift.

Except if its the same time stream, not only would everything they did in the past not have changed the "present", meaning it was doomed to failure, but the past actions were such a gigantic failure that no trace of their existence was ever found by anyone throughout the course of human history.

If they do that then they run into a pretty ridiculous time paradox. How would you explain no trace of this ancient human civilization showing up until the secret people in charge of terra nova discover it in the place they hid it. And what exactly are these resources they are hiding for the future? Their future is so f*cked that they couldn't "hide" anything that would make a significant impact.
