Tequila connoisseurs - I know you're out there

Yup, after doing a search for Cabo Wabo, I saw there are a few of you out there. Looking for something new to try.

My fav... by far... Triada. It's made by Sauza and and smokes everything else we've tried. Magnificent.

What's your fav shot?

I love Herradura. Although it is pricey it is far from the most expensive at $42 a bottle.

It has more of a tequila taste and is as smooth as silk. No lemon or salt needed.

Herradura Anejo? Reposado? Silver? Blanco?

They actually have a bottle of Herradura called Seleccion Suprema for around $300. damn

Currently on a bottle of Casadores Reposada. Not bad at all for $30.

Coworker is gonna pick up some almendrado from Mexico, I'll sample it real good when he comes back.

Connoisseur and tequila don't work in the same sentence 😀 Did it have a worm in the bottle?

From Travelyucatan.com:

THE WORM [GUSANO]

There is no worm in Mexican-bottled tequila.

There is however a worm in American-bottled tequila.

We have encountered two explanations for the worm:

It is only a marketing ploy and not a Mexican tradition.
It is a test to ensure the ratio of alcohol is sufficient. If there is enough alcohol in the bottle the worm is supposed to die.

Apparently the worm gimmick was initiated in the 40's to booster Mexcal sales. The myth that came to be synonymous with the worm is that you get a psychedelic high after ingesting the dead worm. I have even spoken to individuals who swear they got high from the worm however I simply have to question their judgment since they drank the tequila to get to the worm so their experience is somewhat skewed.

There are two types of gusano in mezcal:

gusano rojo - the red [considered superior because it lives in the root and heart of the maguey]
gusano de oro - white/gold [which lives on the leaves and is less-prized]

The larvae from both types of gusano are commonly eaten as food.

Plus it's, well you know...Sammy Hagar's.

:disgust:

Casa Nobile
Reposado ($40-60) or Anejo ($80-100)

The Anejo can be hard to find sometimes.

I'm also going to vote for Don Julio for your typical/casual/entertaining tequila.

I recently bought El Tesoro Anejo. It was very good for the price. I brought it to a party with a bunch of non-tequila drinkers, and in the time it took them to "prepare" themselves for a single shot, I had sipped quite a bit of the bottle. I was pretty drunk that night 😀

Hera Dura (spelling)...hard to find..expensive..almost no hangover..way too smooth..daylight comes too soon..I don't do those things anymore....
