OK, some professor at my university is working on this project, kind of interesting to see if it will ever become big

After spending the past six months fine-tuning the technology, Gerasoulis and his development team in Piscataway, N.J., are rolling out a souped-up search engine called Teoma and taking dead aim at Google, widely regarded as the best way to find anything on the Web.

"We are the next generation in search," said Gerasoulis, a Rutgers University mathematics professor who has had Google in his sights since founding Teoma in 1999. "Google has reached its maturity."

I think Google will still be the best. Lets just wait and see.

Then why ask the question? You're comparing vaporware to tried and true tech. Not the smartest of things to do in the first place. A lot of people can SAY they're going to knock off the current king, but when it comes to actually doing it, few ever deliver as promised. If you were only looking for "expert" opinions, you damn sure came to the wrong place.

You are definitely right. Everything depends on the accuracy of the search algorithm and on how
fast the indexing algorithm works, not on how many pages they currently have indexed.

Um...Google still r0x0rs my b0x0rs.

I searched for University of Michigan and the first three links that came up were (I KID YOU NOT) Michigan State University, Michigan Tech Engineering College, and Eastern Michigan University. See for yourself; you'll get the same results.

Teoma is a joke, and that's all the proof I need. I'll stick with Google.

underneath the search field, there is a checkbox for "find this phrase". if u check that and do a search for "University of Michigan"... it's the first hit. anyway... having options is a good thing, if u guys haven't noticed.

a lot of companies have claimed they're ready to dethrone Google. Easy to say, harder to do. And before you start throwing around credentials, Google has an incredible assortment of brilliant engineers on their staff- phDs are a dime a dozen in that sector.
