Tents and capacity errors

Who comes up with these figures on how many people can sleep in a tent. A 4 person tent can in no way sleep 4 people unless they are midgets (little people). You have to have room for your backpack or bag, sleeping bag, etc. Even these 4 person tents they advertise cannot fit 4 sleeping bags laid out.

so, we bought an 8 person tent for our 4 person family and its just about right.. Maybe a little cramped, but its ok. No way in hell can it sleep 8 people comfortably though.

right, always divide capacity by 2. Every tent is this way.

Why do we park on a driveway and drive on a parkway?

Pro is the opposite of Con, so is Congress the opposite of progress?

and other obvious jokes....

tents r not meant for fat people lawlz

i do capacity +1 for comfort.

single person = 2
couples tent = 3

are you all fat or what ? 😛

you are probably right but I didn't bought a tent in like 5 years so I don't know.

Camping sucks anyway !

Yep, the last time I bought a tent I got the "4 person" model.

The person I was with asked me what I was doing with one that big.
I explained that it would nicely hold me and my gear and not much else.

Camping is for humping, they know this, so they count appropriately.

Just because you don't have others (male, female, family members, doesn't matter) in your sleeping bag with you isn't their fault.

The capacity is correct, you just live a spoiled life. Try sleeping in a half shelter Army tent with a battle buddy PLUS all of your damn gear, in the rain, after rolling around in dirt/mud all day.

brokeback campground?

They really aren't off that much, unless you and your party are all obese.

I recently got a 2-person tent (on the smaller end for 2-people, but not the smallest). I also bought a queen-size blow up mattress. The mattress fit just fine with a couple inches to spare length-wise (enough to store shoes, a few supplies, and next day's clothes. The rest of the camping gear fit nicely outside under the alcove wings (mostly protected from the sun and weather).

If you can't fit 2 people on a queen sized bed, then at least one of you are fat.

a tent isnt a beach-resort bungalow or hut

its a temporary shelter. people backpack with tent, along with eating gear, etc.. has to be small and lightweight as possible.

I'm both tall and fat, and I can fit just fine in tents. They aren't meant to be a luxury resort. a 2 man tent means the absolute max number of people that should be in it is 2.
A 4 person tent means the max number of people is 4.

"4 person tent" does not mean .... 4 people are comfortable and have room for luggage, etc ....

That said, I like a 4 man tent for 2 people, or a bigger tent for any more ....

I think you meant "morbidly obese".

lol, when I was on hiking trips with the boy scouts we would do four teenagers (16-17) in a three person tent. It's just fine for sleeping bags and a few little things. It's not even safe in most parts of the country to be keeping crap in your tent anyway. All your bags should stay outside and food hung in a tree. Course, you probably weren't actually camping were you?

The people that measure tents are the same one that measure garages. "2 1/2 car garage" my ass- I'm lucky if I can park two cars in there!

To fit 5 people in a 5 person tent, they would all have to be having sex with each other.

I divide by 3 or 4 to figure out how many people can fit in one. Though normally we each just set up our own 6-8 person tent.

I dont see the problem here.
