This is the kind of day I have been having. This sums up a lot of the calls I have done today. Lets say I do tech support for a shoe company. It sounds stupid, but makes the point well.
ME: Thank you for Calling usa-1 shoe tech support, my name is jeremy. What model of shoe are we working with today?
CUST: The xj-11, I think.
ME: The xj-11, ok, how long have you owned it??
BLAH BLAH BLAH
ME: what can I help you with today.
CUST: I cant walk across the street.
ME: are your shoes tied?
CUST: Yes.
ME: are you able to walk at all??
CUST: Yeah, I walked to the phone to call you. The problem is, I am unable to cross the street. I cross the street every day in these shoes, everyone in my
company uses these shoes, they work great, but today I cant cross the street. We buy a lot of these shoes, and I just cant believe it.
ME:Usually, you put one foot in front of the other, or do you use a third-party device, like a skateboard, or bike?
CUST: Well, Usually, I call a cab.
ME:to cross the street??
CUST: Yeah, It was this way before I started working here, we have always
done it this way. We call a cab, walk to the curb, and the cab carries us across the street.
ME: Hmm.. Do you see a cab there now??
CUST: No, There are no cabs available right now.
ME: I cannot support the cab, sir, but I can help you walk across the street.
CUST: Well, I could do that, but we always call a cab. If I walk across the street, I could get hit by a car, this is unacceptable. thats not really an option for us.
ME: Sir, I can only support you walking with our shoes, i cannot control the cab arrival.
CUST: But I am wearing your shoes, when I cross the street!! There are no cabs available, so I need your help.
ME: I can help you walk across the street if you like.
CUST:(now angry) You mean nobody else using your shoes crosses the street?? I cant believe this.
ME:Of course they do, but I can only support your shoes, if there is something wrong, or you need help walking in them. I can assist you in crossing the street.
CUST:I told you, thats unacceptable. I guess I am stuck. I pay good money for your shoes, and I cant cross the street. Unacceptable. I guess, the next time I buy shoes, I will have to go somewhere else.
ME: Have a nice day sir, thank you for calling usa-1.
I swear to god, this is how it goes... when you look at it this way..it seems pretty f*cking ridicoulous, doesn't it???
