does anyone, well not anyone, just tennis players, know of a good racket that is cheap and good? cheap being like >60. maybe cheaper. I am a beginner, and I am using my brothers racket, a wilson pro staff, it is really heavy. my hand feels sore after I use it.

Very hard to reccommend a tennis racket since they are based so much on preference. The best thing to do is to demo a few rackets and see which one feels best. Personally I have a hard time finding rackets that feel good to me since just about everything now is "head-heavy" and I prefer and evenly balanced or even a "head-light" racket. Just demo a few and see what you like best.

I agree with Zenmervolt..... defintly go demo a few rackets.... I usaully buy prince rackets. Some of the new triple threat rackets are VERY nice.... wilson hammer's aren't too bad to if you get one "right" for playing style.
The Prostaff Series is one of the best racquets I've ever touched. Yes, they are a bit heavy for beginners, but once you get used to it, the weight actually helps put more umphhh on the ball. I use the 6.1 myself, but I'll probably try one of Megaage M1 racquets. I've heard they feel just like he PS, at only 1/5 the price! I suggest that you try the M2...it's a lot lighter.
Tonix, do you know someone who has a megaage racket? They seem cheap, and if your reccomendation is good, I think I will get one.
Just go used. Nearly all racquets in 8/10 condition(minor cosmetic scratches) go for ~60$ at tennis-warehouse.com's classified's message board. For a beginner, I'd reccomend a Wilson HH 5.2 MP, Prince Precision Response, Yonex Ti1700, MP5i, or Ti1500, and the Dunlop Adrenaline Rush 98. If you are interested in the Rush 98 (light racquet that is surprisingly playable), give me a PM and I'll give you the e-mail addy of a guy selling one for 35$+shipping.

i too would like to know about these megaage racquets... i take it they come unstrung at those prices?
I use a "hyper" prostaff 6.5 (the carbon fiber one)
I couldnt stand the metal ones... I can feel them bending when i hit the ball and recoil when it leaves the racquet.

Here's some info/review of the MegaAge M1

The racquets come pre-strung, but it's very cheap quality 15-gauge string, so the first thing I'd do is cut them out and get some decent 16 or 17 gauge string.
The only pro I've ever heard use it was Pat Cash on the Senior Tour...I think he uses a Volkl now.

I'd definitely go with prince rackets. Sure, most everything on rackets are gimmicks, but to me triple threat braiding seems to do more than Wilson rollers or triad "technology", though I have no idea what the newest gimmick is. I'd recommend the Prince TT Warrior or some head Ti's, but if you want a non-head heavy, light racket, nothing beats the old Wilson pro-staff 5.5. Though I doubt you'd find them anywhere since they didn't sell well. If you find one, it'd be very cheap though

go to sports authority and try to do some demo's. It's hard to judge because sometimes t he demo's are horrible. tennis warehouse does demo's too, and much better IMO. Sorta costly tho going that method... especially for a begining racquet (plus, i dunno if they demo the cheaper racquets..)... so go to sports authority and give some a try there on how they feel and swing (just don't hit anyone )

Head Radical Tour OS....it's cheap around ~$60, but it's a definitely a pro-quality frame.
It's one of the first Head Racquets Andre Agassi used, and a few of my friends use it.
I like the mid-size version, but they no longer make it. It's an Over Sized frame, so it's a
good, beginner racquet and I don't think it's too heavy...of course I add lead tape to my
Pro Staff to give even more heft. If you are near a Sports Authority, check it out...they still
might have demo program so you can try it out.

Prince has redesigned the Stealth, Hornet, and the Viper. all Prince reps gave closeout models to retailers in December at greatly reduced prices to net down the cost of the model. go to a local retailer and do two things.
1. se if they carry the older models of those raquets along with the newer models. tell them you'd be interested in purchasing the older model. they will jump at the chance!
2. see about purchasing the demo of the older model. i know the Hornet demo cost $20 when originally purchased form Prince, so see what deal you can get. if you have any questions regarding wholesale price so you can haggle, PM me and i'll find out. (that goes for Wilson and Dunlop, too)
