Tennessee Sucks

Yes that's right, Tennessee officially sucks now. Our government can't agree on a budget, so all of our state universities are shutting down, meaning those of us in summer classes have to go home and get no credit for the work we've already completed. Its because of the morons who want an income tax that everythings shutting down...there's not even gonna be a fireworks display at the capitol this year...Jeez, sorry had to get that off of my chest.

so does that mean that tenn univ. shut down too? man, that sucks, maybe if it is ever resolved you can petition the credit

Yes, and TN is home to Bucksnort, Lynch, and many other wonderfully named cities. Ashley Judd has a house about 10 minutes from me...the only reason I'm still here 🙂. Al Gore just has a house here, he wasn't born here and didn't grow up here...common misconception. Although there are plenty of roads named after him :disgust:
List of schools I know are shutdown at least until July 8th. If the budget isn't resolved by then, schools will remain shutdown for the rest of the summer.
TSU
MTSU
UT Knoxville
UT Chatanooga
Tennesse Tech (my school)

That sucks, a bunch of seniors need those classes to graduate.
A friend of mine who graduated from there last year was mentioning that yesterday. I wonder if somebody will end up suing them if they already had a job offered on the condition that they graduate at the end of summer term?

Isn't Tennessee the home of Al Gore?

Just one more reason it sucks. 😉

But personally, I also look forward to moving away from the inept politicians of this state.

. . . and this will lead you to the incredibly impressive, hard-working, rational, thoughtful politicians of which state exactly? 😛

At least your state HAS money. The state of Alabama is flat broke...we had to suspend jury trials for a time because of it 😛

Yea, for about a day, then the politicians buy $3000 ham sandwiches and $10000 vanilla cokes, and we're broke again. Why do you think they keep raising taxes and wanting to impose an income tax. They proposed a 3.5% state income tax at first, and before it was even passed they raised it to 4.5% That's on top of our 8.25% sales tax. Maybe next they'll decide that they need to take all of our income and dole out food rations and clothing, and give us all public shelters.

I had to rant as well. My main beef is the state government does not want to control spending, and can't agree on how to raise the tax.

I wonder how much of my tax $$$ goes to people on Tenncare so they can go to the emergecny room when they have a headache and cost the taxpayer $1000 to get some free tylenol. I am ashamed to say I have a relative on Tenncare and they go to the doctor for every little thing cause its free.

They need to cut spending but no one wants to do that.

Yes, please tell us. I'd like to move there, too. 😉

Yeah, but Tennessee is a beautiful state! My family is from there, both sides. We's all hillbillies. Well, they are, I was raised in Michigan.

I think all but one state is deficit spending right now, the legislature in every state heard cash-box sounds (cha-ching) in their heads when the economy was promising a windfall of tax revenues that never panned out. So they spent and spent, and they don't know how to stop, or at least they don't know how to trim a budget. Every program, every dollar, is "vital" to government they say. Except, much of that money wasn't being spent 5 years ago. How does one go from discretionary spending to vital government expenditures in 5 years?

California is figuring out how to bridge a $28 billion deficit gap. The answer is very simple. Bring out the last budget California approved when it spent $28 billion less than it does today.

I mean Judas F-cking Priest, this isn't astrophysics!

Yes, but Tennessee has about 5 Billion dollars that they spent somewhere, but "we don't know where", so instead of finding out, they want more. It's not that they were planning to spend lots of money from taxes collected, and then they didn't obtain enough, they just want an endless spending budget. They problem is they don't plan, they just spend and collect.

Legislatures are like children, they aren't going to understand 'limits' unless Mommy and Daddy impose limits on them. In this case, the voters are Mommy and Daddy, and they allow legislatures to get away with it without any real consequences.

You want to see bad state gov't? Come out to CA, where because of our wonderful leaders we pay 10x more for electricity than it actually costs on the open market!!

At least your state schools are still open...so what if they can't afford electricity, electricity isn't THAT important. 😉

isn't Fred Thompson a senator from TN? he's good.

Rudder, it sounds like you don't mind paying more taxes, you just want them to decide how.
