I made out like a bandit. 2 packs of the DVD-R 2x which came back as TDKG02 (I assume that's a ricoh-like moniker. I've yet to encounter a burn problem with the A06) and 2 packs of the DVD+R 4X which came back as the RICOHJAPAN moniker. http://www.dvdrhelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=201816&highlight=tdk has a post about id-ing the discs.

FWIW, my 2X ones were individually wrapped and then shrink wrapped in a 10 pack.

Great link. Now I'll be checking out the discs at the store instead of finding out they are CMC after I get home.

There is a $2 off coupon code for both the + and -r's. B&M must just take it off at the register. I got a 10pk of each of the substituted memorex online. There is free shipping on orders over $50. So order 6 packs and some filler.

I just want to tell all of you that Arita discs are awesome...I have heard that they are the same as Ricohs. I bought a 100 of them, labeled at 4X, and have burned about 50 DVDs at 8X flawlessly. You can get these cheap at newegg and other places. I just thought you all should know because these really do burn at 8 without a single problem.

Am I missing something in this post? Seems to me that they are talking about the spindles and not the 10-packs on sale.

My DVD-R discs came up as "TDK" as the manufacturer in both DVD Identifier and DVDinfo

Is that good or bad?

If there's a g02 in the name, then they're probably Ritek g02's, which are pretty good.

I got 3 packs, 2+R and 1-R, one + and - pack is for my Dad, the plus R's I bought for myself are G04's Ricoh's and burned GREAT at 8X, they played in my DVD player just fine.

I'm going back tomorrow and checking out what else they have, the 10packs were selling pretty well at my store, so they're probably out already.

Edit: Those of you who bought the I/O Magic drive, even if you get CMC disks from the TDK 10 pack, they will burn at 8x according to the I/O magic website.

Looks like staples is getting even more of my money :D

The pictures are of spindles of disc, yes, but I'm talking about the discs themselves. In truth, I know of no way to distinguish the contents of the jewell case based only on what's on the outside. Even my RICOH disks have a sticker/upc that says "made in Taiwan".

According to the IOMagic website, some sony 4X media is sold as CMC or Ricoh, and will burn at 8X in their burner .

So there's a good chance it's Ricoh or the CMC stuff.

Of the three packs I bought last night, one was shrink wrapped (plastic like saran wrap), and the other was wrapped with cellophane type wrap (like CDs come in). They were all Ricoh disks.

There goes my theory on plastic vs cello wrap.

So its all pot luck, check all the packages you purchased.

On thh 'DVD info' thing... didn't we read a year back that some of these dvd/cd companies were placing bogus data on the discs... you would think you are getting one thing but getting another...

Well, I went into a Staples yesterday and they were out... in fact, according to website whole region was out (SoCal). Went into another one today (Bundy), they were of course out, though I thought they might have restocked since someone in this thread mentioned it. The guy said check tomorrow at noon, however I asked about substitution and I got a no, as well as a this price doesn't apply any more. :| Apparently page 3 of the circular was only Sunday/Monday deals according to a big stripe down the side about Pres Day. I need cheap media. :(

I picked up the last pack of TDK DVD-Rs late Monday at the local Staples (LA area). :p The guy was surprised that any were left.

(edit) weak, I got 2 packages of CMC MAG F01 and 1 package of TDKG02s. I wanted some more Riteks and Ricohs. :p
