Tempurpedic / Bobopedic

Spooner

Lifer
bought one of those bob-o-pedic mattresses (for those of you not in the area, its a direct competitor to tempurpedic for much less the price) and for the most part i am satisfied with it as it is pretty comfortable but what in gods name is with THE SMELL? I received it on Friday so i'm only a few days in, but does this stench go away? It's like synthetic / spray paint type smell that annoys me for a full half hour when i lie down until i finally get used to it and drift off

i have 30 days to return this thing so i want to know if anyone else has any experience

I'd have a hard time buying one of those just because I can't stand the commercials. 😛

I dunno on the smell...it can't be good for you, though. Might be worth a call to the retailer.

In about a month or two... yes, the smell will fade. At least it did with my tempur-pedic. You get used to it, though... I almost missed it myself.

this is what i'm worried about... i have visions of going to sleep one night on my nice new comfy mattress and never waking up :Q

Good ol' Bob's Discount Furniture... I guess that you have to live around New England to understand how infamous their furniture commercials are.

I went there for a sofa once, and their selection looked pretty cheaply made. I guess that you get what you pay for.

I love the smell of napalm in the morning.

That smell you are smelling is the off-gassing of the chemicals used to make the foam in the mattress. Depending on the chemical make-up of the foam, those fumes may be dangerous.

i'm giving it a week

if it's not noticeably different, i will be considering a return to sender

Did you air it out before using it? I aired out my foam mattress for a week and there was still a light smell.

yeah mine (novaform) came in a warning to not sleep on it the first night, and to air it out...

I was looking into a foam/latex mattress as well and this smell issue seems a bit ridiculous. I live in an apartment with no option to really air it out. The ventilation in my place kinda sucks as there is no cross breeze. It's also the dead of winter and opening my windows is not feasible. Also what do these weigh roughly for a queen? Roughly, like I heard they were much heavier then normal mattresses.

A queen novaform is 100 pounds.

When I bought mine, I just opened it up where I wanted it to be, moved my old bed downstairs, and slept on said old bed until new bed was ready.

This isn't rocket science here, wait until spring and buy a fan or don't get a tempurpedic?

Don't those things get hot as hell? I woke up sweating my ass off one time when I slept on a memory foam bed.

yea. also ruins your rhythm when you're going at it. Stayed in a hotel that had those mattresses...didnt like it at all.

damn. so that's why the girl didnt wanna go out on a 2nd date.

I've had a Tempurpedic mattress for over 6 months and love it. While I don't believe any of the "scientific" claims made in the commercial, it is the most comfortable bed I've slept in.

As for the smell, I stopped noticing it after about a week. Of course, ymmv.
