First post here!

Just wondering if my temps are too high. Currently running at 4.9GHz with an offset voltage of 0.085V. Ambient temps are 21C and cooler is Corsair H50 with push/pull.

Thanks guys :)

I wouldn't run mine at >1.4V, especially not with temps >80C. Then again, I plan on keeping mine for at least three years.

What are your ambient temps ?

You are running about 10c higher than me, with a 212+ ..
Ambient about 21 ...

I have an h70, at 5.2ghz, 1.45v. With an open side case I am 27 Celsius idle and 61 celsius at full load after half hour.

Very stable. Trick is, you have to replace the fans that come with the h50 and h70 kits. The fans they come with are around 25cfm. You can get some 100cfm fans for around $10 each. It makes a night and day difference.

80 Celsius is too high. Try to stay below 75 Celsius under full load otherwise you'll sacrifice stability and wear down your equipment quickly.

So what is that 100cfm fan like 1000 DBA??

To those of you who have the H70. Is it worth it over the H50? I've bought high 110 CFM fans with a fan controller and I'll see how much it'll improve my temps. Note though that I am using Offset voltages so only under HEAVY load (Prime95 is the only program I've seen) do my temps hit the high 70s. Otherwise it's idle at 30C or load at 60C.

If you use speedstep then heat is not an issue during regular computing so I've been fine with just going with the increased voltage. My personal oc'ing policy is to go as high as you can while keeping the system stable. Then bring it down 5%. That'll account for any anomalies and keep your system a lot safer no matter what happens rather than riding it on the border.

As for h70 over h50...honestly I haven't used the h50. I know the h70 is better, but not better enough to justify the extra $40 price difference between the units here in Canada. But I figure if I'm using a lazy man's water cooling system, I may as well fork out a tad more to get as much cooling as I can out of it.

If you're planning on sticking to 4.5ghz-ish, I'm sure the h50 with stock fans would be enough.

I know someone who tried to OC the 2600k to 5ghz with the h50 and stock fans and it would only stay up for a minute or two before crashing and I'm stable at 5.2ghz with the h70 and 2 high flow fans.

And no they're not too loud. About 37dbm. They only spin at around 2200rpm. What may be a problem though, depending on the fans you have, is that while one fan is spinning at max speed, another fan is pushing a ton of air through it, causing it to spin at higher speeds than it can do on it's own, and this can result in a rather annoying hum or screeching noise.

Using quiet/lower cfm fans will help that. But the way I look at it...its still quieter than the fan on my video card so it muffles it out pretty much. Haha.

Cheers.

Yes I left all of the power features enabled and I'm using voltage offset so my idle voltage is around 1V at 1600MHz so the temps are fine when idle.

Just got my fans in today as well as a Lamptron fan controller. It improved my temps by about 3-5C. I really don't mind the noise and I only turn the fans up when stress testing (and that's extremely rare, as when I know it's stable...I hardly ever use 100% CPU). I'm really debating on getting an H70 now. Just curious what fans are you using? Also what are your overclock settings for 5.2GHz, and idle/load temps (using Prime95 blend)?

You might need a offset 0-15 but I highly doubt it.

Those 70's are too hot my friend, Life will shorten of CPU.. thx

70's aren't too hot for a 5ghz+ cpu under full load. That's what a stock cpu/fan will hit under full load.
