Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T...dibular_joint_disorder

My jaw has been screwed up for about seven years and just recently I've been experiencing more pressure and ringing in my right ear than usual--and when I try to get the pressure out of my ear, it just comes back instantly. I hear short, low "woosh" and the pressure is back. The right side of my jaw has always been the trouble spot with during the duration of the TMJ, and now my right ear is having all sorts of problems.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I have tried cleaning my ears (nothing helped) and have also just tried waiting it out. Nothing. The last thing I'm going to try is a decongestant, and if that doesn't work, I am going to the doctor.

Thanks

It runs in my family, and I grind my teeth something horrible at night. Wearing a night guard helps, but I can tell it doesn't help 100%. I've always had a feeling like my ears were full, I wasn't aware they were related. Let us know what the doc says, I might have to go some day. I've been steering clear because my aunt had to have jaw surgery, and it frankly sounded horrible.

i recently had tmj surgery, but that was because the tmj disc was out of place causing my jaw to lock.

it could be that you have an inflamed tmj, and the pressure is messing with your nerves around your ear.. the tmj is right in front of your ear and if its irritated it can feel like your ears hurt

I've had a couple of dentists look at mine... I've even gone to an oral surgeon. The TMJ doesn't hurt me or cause pain, it just makes my jaw click once in a while. But now I have this awkward pressure and ringing in my ear.

I can't say for certain if particular pressure and ringing is in fact related to the TMJ... but I will soon find out... 😕

a clicking jaw that doesn't cause pain or lock up is just something you deal with like you would a knee or a knuckle that cracks. the TMJ is a joint just like those joints where the air bubble in it pops and you hear a popping noise. it's a non issue unless it hurts when it happens.

i would guess you have tinnitus.

Well...yes...that explains the ringing...but the pressure and "fullness" is something completely different...

my wife claims she has it so she doesn't have to "take care" of me if you catch my drift.

She even has the dentist buying into it and had to have a $300 mouth guard made for at night.

oh hell, you aren't that big.
people who have TMD just need to not open their mouths wide like during yawning or when eating a submarine sandwich.

it was the weirdest conversation when I had to convince her that it wasn't too big. I did not win the argument. If I knew the last one was going to be the "last one" I would have marked it on a calendar and drank every year on that day in rememberance.

My father is a retired dentist who treated a lot of TMJ cases. He made splints for the patients to wear at night and thay got rid of a lot of head/neck pain.

Just tell her I said TMJ should not affect her wifely duties in any such way. This is my professional opinion.

Am I dentist? No, but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn last night.

I do - there's a gap between my back teeth and they don't touch anymore. I get headaches from it when it's cold and when I talk a lot. My otherwise good insurance won't cover any of the treatment... it's ridiculous. They want me to go through 6 months of therapy and have braces on again (I had them on for 4 years when I was younger).
