Hi guys. So, i messed up (and don't really deserve to drive my car anymore). I scratched my rear passenger side door against a pillar. Any way, the door open and closes just fine but obviously has a lot of scratches and paint peeling. At one location atleast i can see bare metal.

Do i need to immediatly get work done to prevent rusting ?
Is there a temporary (cheap) solution i could use that would prevent future problems but allow me to delay the repairs a few months (or years).

Wipe it down with isopropyl alcohol and paint over with touch-up paint (preferably the same color). It won't be pretty, but I think that's the least of your concerns.

Yeah, i'd like my baby to look pretty but i'm not selling it or anything so function over form. I'll get it repaired when i get some more spare cash.

Btw, does anyone have any experiance dealing with insurance companies in matter like this. Will i get completly screwed if i get them to repair it.

Take some pictures and let's see what the actual damages are. Depends on severity, you may bite into your deductible, which is usually $500 nowadays. If less than that it's best to repair it yourself.

Just from the damage and situation you described, I can't imagine it costs more than $500 to repair, so take it to a body shop and get an estimate (actually, take it to multiple ones).
 
Get a quote off of a mobile scratch repair dude. If it's not too bad you're probably better off getting it done now, and these guys are often pretty good value.
