Temporarily Disable BlackBerry Data

I'm going to be flying into Canada this evening and don't want to have my BlackBerry 8703e dealing with data during the time when I'm up there. Does anybody know if disabling redirection will stop the BlackBerry from trying to access the internet or will it try to receive updates on it's own? If that won't work for me, is there another option?

Being that the BlackBerry is the companies and the reason I'm going to Canada is personal, I don't think they're going to want to pay for the data usage and I know that I don't.

Can't remember if the 8700 has this option, but check under 'Options>Mobile Network'. In the mobile network option you may have the 'Data Services' option and you can then set it to off for your trip.

Yeah, I looked for that. I even went through the hassle of updating to 4.2 and I still didn't have the option. I finally had to call Verizon's technical support and they told me that I can have the data roaming capabilities turned off. I guess that's what I'll have to do. Thanks for your help.

If you're going for personal reasons, do you really NEED to carry your work phone? If you need it to be reached while on vacation, couldn't you simply forward calls from your work phone to your personal phone?

I only have one phone and my BlackBerry is it. If I had a second phone then obviously I wouldn't have had a problem.

What I ended up doing was calling Verizon and having them remove the data service (which according to 3 of the 4 reps I talked to isn't possible) and then re-adding it when I got back to the US. It was a hassle but it's over now and I shouldn't have this problem in the future.
