Temperature Question

I just built a new system with the Gigabyte 965P-DS3 mobo and a Celeron D 351 (waiting on a C2D). Using the stock HSF, the BIOS is reporting temps around 70 C after running for awhile. However, using either SpeedFan or the EasyTune 5 software, I get a CPU temp of around 50 C (at idle), or 60C (at load). I think Intel says that about 68C is the max stable temp for this CPU. It seems to run fine, but I haven't left it on for more than about 3 hours so far.

I'd prefer to believe the software rather than the BIOS. Any idea which is more accurate?

Also, why would they be different? I would have thought that the BIOS and software would be getting the temps from the same source?

Thanks,

Tim

I highly doubt that your Celery is supposed to be idling at either 60*C or 70*C. I would definitely try reseating the heatsink. That Skt. 775 uses an awfully strange way to attach the heatsink, and not many people seem to get it right on their first try.

I agree. The Celeron 346's we have at work idle in the low 40's with the stock Intel HSF.. and that's from the Bios.

(Of course, for what they're used for, I doubt they do much other than idling)
