does anyone know any good hardware monitoring utilities that would work on Xp home edition and with an AOpen AK33 (Athlon/Duron board), the one i have downloded from their site won't install

one that did work however (Motherboard Monitor 5), was too diffectult to set up, (had to choose which sensors to use) and i think gave dodgy readings because of it

it claims that i am getting 70 degrees C as my CPU temperature, if this was the case, surely it would have burned up by now..

Athlong Thunderbird 950Mhz, coolermaster cpu fan up to 1Ghz, 2x 18mm (i think they're 18) system fans, one at back, one at front with drilled holes n case for better airflow :), 2x fans on 350W enermax PSU, not sure if both are up and running though

Have you checked, to make sure your BIOS doesn't offer a CPU/System Temp screen? MBM has been pretty accurate for me, and I've got it running on three boxen right now. I beleive that the CPU will "operate" at that temp, but I wouldn't think that it would be very stable. I don't think the burning would happen until 90 degrees... (I haven't tested that though ;) )

Did you apply any thermal paste, or a thermal pad when you installed the heatsink? And have you checked to make sure your fan's actually working?

just checked, its definatly working

thats the thing, my pcs been crashing a lot, i recently put a new fan in at the front of the case, connected direct to the PSU and that has improved stability greatly, buts till not perfect; get the occasional crash when playing demanding games i.e. Max Payne

it does have a monitoring section, 'Pc Health Status' it shows everything, voltage, RPM, but the temperature gages are showing everythign at 0C
do u have to have monitoring software installed to be able to vie the temperature in the BIOS?

Try MBProbe...it's what I use. It's really simple and works with XP home. Get it here. Follow the instructions on the site for getting it to work with XP. Hope this helps!
