Temperature Controlled, hardware fan controller?

I'm wondering if anybody has heard of a HARDWARE temperature controlled fan controller.

IE.. there's no software involved, just set the thing up and it works no matter what OS you're using (or if you're booting, or whatever).

If nobody can find one, I think I'll just build one... I need a project like this ;-)

 
Funny you should mention it, but I actually built a microcontroller controlled one for a college project. 🙂

Anyway, yes they do make these, the DigiDoc being the most famous one I can think of.
