Temperature and Fans

I just installed a few new fans as well as a new heat sink into my system and I thought I'd share some of my results.

System:
Athlon 1.33 Ghz not overclocked
Swiftech MCX370 with Delta 7000 rpm
120 mm Sunon 103 cfm rear exhaust
80 mm Sunon 50 cfm side port
80 mm Sunon 50 cfm front intake
2 - 80 mm generic 34 cfm intakes on the very bottom of the case. (Case is held off the floor about 2 inches and the bottom fans have filters)

Basically after installing everything, my temps dropped about 19 C from my initial setup with a VolcanoII hs and 1 front intake, the only problem is that it sounds like a 747 jet is parked in my room!

I decided to build a switch block for one of the drive bays so that I could switch the fans to either 12V, 7V or off. I kept the front intake running at stock 12v and the Delta hsf switch has either hi or low - no off position. Now I have alot of flexibilty in my cooling configuration

I only had time to test the cpu at idle and found that with only the psu exhaust fan, front intake running and hsf Delta running at 7 V I get a case temp of 30 C and cpu temp of 56 C. The system is stable and whisper quiet, so for general surfing or 'light duty' computing, it is great.

When I turn all the fans on at 12 V, the machine becomes quite loud, but my case temp drops to 24 C and my cpu temp drops to 44 C - perfect for overclocking and gaming.

I quickly ran a few WinMark2001 benchmarks to load the cpu and found that my CPU temp only increased about 3-4 C. The MCX370 is quite efficient I guess. One interesting thing I noticed was that the 80 mm Sunon intake mounted in the side doesn't really make much temp difference whether it's on or off.

Ambient temps were around 21 C.
